HQ Discs and stubs
« on: April 12, 2009, 06:42:36 AM »
Gday All

Now I know this has been tried and I guess I am missing something but I just fitted HQ stubs and rotors to my CF   a bolt on mod the only drama being the steering arm taper is upside down,  now I am thinking of getting it reamed to suitso that all bolts on and works.   Next I will swap the master cylinder but leave the booster in place.   I have already fitted a HQ diff and mags so the stud patterns are the same.

So what arent I seeing here?   it so far hasnt been a hard swap  am I missing something because I want it to work?

Regards
Ausdog

YOU HAVE TO GRIND OUT A SPACE FOR THE STEERING KNUCKLE TO FIT. Sorry my shift lock was on. I should say you have to grind out a bit so the calliper fits around the steering knuckle thingy

When you say you bolted on HQ stubs do you mean the entire stub axle that fits between the upper and lower control arms ,if so this will be a problem as they are about 40 mm shorter (in height) than the bedford stub axle this will limit the upper and lower control arm travel, and bottom out sooner in both directions (up and down) Not sure but I think it will also affect the Caster angle when you are turning corners etc

Cheers

Ok I realize now that the height difference between the upper and lower control arms is a bit.    HMMM might still give it a run and see how it goes I have disc mounts now and all I have to do is to get the steering arm reamed to suit the beddie one.    May not be the answer but got to try something.

hey ausdog been down this road before, ??? have just done disc break conversion on my bedy, cross drilled and ventilated disc's , dba golds with pbr calipers,  holden stub axels are a lot weaker than the bedy, inside bearing is exactly the same but outer bearing is nearly half the size, i stayed with the bedford outer bearing and had the rotor machined to fit, a lot stonger especially if your wanting to upsize your motor later on, there are caliper mounting kits out there to make it a lot easier to fit, i no the holden stubs may be a little easier to set up? but i think you will have issues later down the track  hope this helps cheers stevo 8)

hi eddy good to here from you brother, dunedins good, has been a spectacular easter weekend weather wise, but have been under the bedy for most of that, have ripped the front off, replaced the ends of the chassis rails and remanufactured the front crossmember so i can remove it when taking ou the motor instead of the usual way, cut out the front wheel arches and replaced, have had the firewall and chasiss completly sandblasted and even stipped out the inside of the cab and sanblasted that aswell, on my 4th litre tin of por 15, shes comin together nicely, got two mint doors and a totaly rust free bonnet in mint condition to go on aswell, motor is not far away from being finished, the plan is to have on the road for xmas, oh yea, forgot to mention have ripped the alloy off the cabover and found rust in there aswell so put all new alloy on aswell, its become a abit of a mission but hopefully when its all finished wont have to work on it any more and can get some more hunting done,, going up tp the waiarapa for to weeks hunting on my nieces property hopefully bring back another fallow buck for the to hang on the wall, the two i got on there now are gettin a bit lonley me thinks,  hows it all going over there eddy hope alls well with you cheers stevo   8)  ps will post some more pics later of camper in my gallery, watch this space
