swb beddie or kombi?
« on: March 22, 2009, 10:46:51 PM »
Hi guys,

i'm in the market for an old school van.. i'm a pastor at a church in Adelaide, and i'm keen to get some of the local youth onto a project. (they're pumped for it!)

I've always wanted to do up a Bedford, but someone has suggested a kombi.. i'm, a. looking for some reasons to go beddy over kombi, and b. looking for a bedford to purchase!!

any suggestions?  and also, what kind of things can you do with them?  i'm thinking of putting a 50 inch LCD in the back, with a slide out bbq & bar fridge, and massive sound system so i can take it around to skate parks etc and help the kiddies out with events and stuff.

Don.

Crikey Don, what answer did you expect from beddie enthusiasts ... of course go the beddie, have a look at the post 'Round 5 here we go again' and check the van Red, one piece lift up rear for the slide out barbie and attach subs and lcd screen to the side door so when its opened they are facing out, throw on a roof rack and attach an awning to sit under and brother you got yourself a mobile meet and eat and seat show  or in your line of work a play and pray bay ;D

ekm ...... never lead with your chin, let others lead with theirs

Thats easy.....if they are young...there going to find a done up bedford to look cooler than a combi.

I also woulda thought that being a holden the parts might be cheaper/ easier to come by (depending on what you need), also i think they are wider thus more seats, and safer (ok safer i made up).

And God loves Bedford...thats why he got me one, i only had to pray for 16yrs but he did it. Arnt combis german??? hmmmm

Ok

Split Kombies are gr8(pre 68), some think they all catch fire but its a bit like the beddie, if its not maintained your in trouble in some sort of way.
Both beddies and kombies love to soak up plenty of money if your doing a full resto; a plus for the kombie most rust repair pannels are avalable and all other parts are easy to get.
Beddies are gr8 too as they can tow more than a kombie and i love the V8 in a bedford; have seen v8 in a kombie too LOL...........
For money tipped in, the kombie will be worth more at the end of the day but its totally up to the person what they want.
I have both and love em the same; Good one day bad the other LOL........ joking
Anyway if you come accross a 23 window kombie; dont tell anyone just PM me and i will go and see if its worth salvaging hehehehe
All the best in beddie world
Cheers Lewy

bedfords are the greatest looking vans/ vehicles ever!!!!!

and they have holden running gear in them.. best combination ever!!

i cant compare with the combi cause i dont know combies.. except ive did a lot of chassis rust in one a little while back.. but i cant say much for no rust in a beddy..

the fact that they are really wide and handle well even standard is something i love lots.. anything narrow looks out of proportion in my opinion.

SAFETY

Bedfords have more than a headlight in front of your legs in an accident!

Plus if you have a beddie you don,t have to paint flowers and rainbows on it!
If you like it do it, If you like it a lot do it a lot!

i would never get a kombi. pure asthetics. cheaper parts (except maybe speedos and rubbers) and an abundance of inspiration and support. You could break down in the coorong and it would be no drama to get it fixed. well. hopefully.

good luck with the search!
