Jiggy with it
« on: August 23, 2015, 06:29:49 PM »
Dont suppose anyone has a jig made up for placing V8
Engine mounts on a bedford subframe???
For a carby aspirated 308 motor.

If not im thinking that putting the V8 under and bolting the trimatic gearbox to the gearbox crossmember will then give me the location
For the engine mounts.
Would this be right anyone?

I want to put a 308 in the blue beddy.

Cheers marty

yeah that's pretty much how I did mine, located the T700 on the gearbox mount, then bolted the cut off engine mounts to the motor (make sure they are sitting straight up and down)  then support the engine on the front with a chain block or similar, get it in the right spot side to side then lower it down and measure another 4 times, then tack it in place, remove cross member and finish welding.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Pretty much the same here.
Had to work out how far from the electric radiators fans the water pump would be then worked on position.
Also in my case I have put in power steering and had to have enough clearance from rack etc.

I already had a made up drive shaft from the donor van, so worked from the rear axle forwards. Like VanWolf I had to mount the engine slightly higher than I would have liked in order to clear my power steering rack.

actually that's a thought, the location of my motor puts the oil pump over the top of the steering rack and theres about 10mm clearance between the two!

that's the little bolt that sticks down on a 5ltr oil pump.

not the best angled picture but gives you an idea.

I also lowered the gearbox crossmember about 25mm (spacers) to get the correct engine/gearbox angle too.

Whats that little bolt on the oilpump for Sammy?
Is it a pressure bypass valve?

yeah I believe so, its stock on the 304/308 oil pumps as far as I know, and yeah it was pretty close in that picture, it ended up being about 10mm clearance
