disc brake questions
« on: February 04, 2009, 07:21:25 PM »

I have a PBS disc brake system on my CFS

Upper Beddy Ball joint
Lower Hq Ball joint
Running with Standard but resleeved
 Lockheed Beddy Master Cylinder

My Wreck has

Girlock Disc Brake set up
standard upper n lower beddy ball joints
Running with what looks like a holden master cylinder

Can i run the Girlock set up with my Lockheed Master cylinder or do i have to swap to the holden one ??

Any help or knowledge will be appreciated

Marky :o

Why the need to change? If the brakes are working ok. Check the bore of the master cylinder to make sure they are compatible. Bigger bore = more fluid  = more force applied! Just a note that if too much force then the rears can lock up or blow wheel cylinders.

Well the 2 Pins which hold the caliper on are worn and the whole assembly rattles

Priced kits to rebuild them $100 each..get calipers sandblasted n good as new

But Kits are out of stock ...aaaarrrggghh

..so my local brake place tells me ..something to do with Hq racing or could be bullshit ?

But I have this wreck with the Girlock set up sitting in my yard and would like to use it if it cost less..

...girlock set up is biggerbrake n caliper too

If you are swapping calipers and master cylinder that should be ok. Just check the bore size re rear brakes.

i believe you need longer bolts for the Girlock calipers, but you should have them on the doner

The castlemaine rod shop kit comes with two different length bolts for different calipers

www.memoria.com.au/DB022.doc

Kit Contains:
4  off  1-3/4" x 7/16" UNF bolts (when using PBR caliper– cast iron type.)
4  off  2" x 7/16" UNF bolts (when using Girlock caliper– cast iron type.)

Apart from that they are physically interchangeable.
If caliper piston is larger then more braking force, if smaller then less
So long as master cylinder can deliver enough fluid you should be OK (?)
