former 70s kiwi van rescued
« on: September 27, 2014, 07:20:58 PM »
Evening All, another joyous day for us with another van added to the collection.
this time its a van that was built and appeared on the kiwi show circuit for awhile unfinished n then ended up being passed around before being rescued from the scrap yard n had has now made its way into my hands. it was known as Flaming pink in its day and was built by a guy by the name of Andy Philpott. it has an all steel body kit and one hell of a front kit, the side door has been gull-winged quite poorly over the years n needs to be redone. my white cf facelift van is going to donate its rb30 n trans plus dash etc to it as the its body is in pretty bad condition - has been pumped full of bog by a previous owners. so it will a quick swap over to it get up and running, hopefully will have it drivable by Xmas all going to plan

Not my cup of tea, but can appreciate the work gone into it, the story I know is one of the owners who had the van moved to OZ, and wanted to take it with him, but it didn't happen, back then the van was all light Blue, have a photo here some where..

Sounds like she has a bit of history. Good on you for saving her Scott.

Bas, was it blue and gold with murals? or am I thinking of another one? If it's the one I'm thinking about I have a photo of it somewhere, it was on a trailer at a van show backs in the dark ages (late 80's or early 90's), think the show was either in Henderson or Te atatu
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

another one owned/built by Andy, Jeff knows a bit more of the history of the one ive brought, it was built in timaru by Andy for Mike Jones? n driven for some time then ended up in invercargill for a period of time, came back to christchurch  while it was still pink n sold of in 2012/3 for its engine n trans - a 350TPI chev n from there ended up in wreckers

I prefer the blue version without all the crap around the windscreen. The rake on the blue version is a nice look.
