I NEED HELP !! and advice on my bedford cf250 1974 (wipers)
« on: September 09, 2014, 03:55:58 PM »
any ideas how to remove wiper motor without pullin whole dash, heater, steering wheel off. I have power to and from the switch but the wipers went from slow to stop, next step would be the motor i assume, any pointers on how to get at that sucker would be appreciated.

Wiper motor complete with mechanism slides out towards the left hand side so no need to remove anything on the driver's side. You may be able to wiggle it past the heater box but you will need to remove the plastic air hoses attached to the heater box. It all depends on whether you are running a standard engine cover or something different to cover a bigger engine. A bigger engine cover may need to be removed to give you sufficient clearance otherwise its out with the heater unit I'm afraid.

All the best Ambo. I'm guessing that you are going to upgrade to a more modern wiper motor while you have the unit out. I used a Ford XB unit and it made the world of difference. More powerful and a lot quieter.

Do yourself a favour and put some sealant between the body and the angled plastic inserts that go on the wiper spindles before the big locking nuts when you assemble everything. The original rubber gaskets are probably badly perished and this is a common place for water leaks. You would be amazed at how much water enters the cab through the wiper spindles.

Got everything out , heater box and ducts, located wiper motor which does not look original and it appears everything has been apart before, after looking on how to remove motor found a broken earth wire to the motor, re connected the wire and" bingo " wipers work fine. Then after a couple of hours and a lot of swearing got it all back together, with sealant around wiper spindles,   thanks for your help Gordon, cheers

Well done Ambo. Look on the bright side ... at least you know its a good motor and everything is nice and water tight. The standard Bedford wiper motors are pretty poor performers.

yeah mate, just up the road, Kundabung. Been to the tele point pub a few times. Hope to get the bedford blueslipped soon and drive down there for a few coldies.
