i learnt an invaluable lesson getting borrie going again....the "insulator" bush on the back of the alternator....DON'T think that some clown has got a box of washers for chrissy and just thrown them willy nilly all over the place ...... because this could be a very nasty lesson....luckily not being over confident with wiring I took every possible prcaution that when I reconnected the battery I felt the earth lead heat up.....and disconnected it emmediatley....would have melted most of the wiring harness had i not been on the ball. thank F.

I relocated the alternator and when reconnecting the extended wires I wondered why there was soo many "washers" on the back of the main pin ,Sooo I removed them and just used the minimium.....one of them is a fibre washer and insulates the the current feed back (?) sort of .......some one will know the correct jargen.....

SOOOO make sure there is a lge fibre washer, nut, wires, lock washer and nut next time you play with your alternator......Dano

pls add to this as I hope I don't mis lead anyone...as we all know how flamable our ladies are... :-\
Can I go play now...?

Dano, atleast you learnt the lesson the good way, it could have been much worse. Next time you wont look at washers as simply washers, you'll look at what type of washers they are.

Anyway, after spending the last 2 weeks looking at the bedford while working on 202s for HQs, we went up to Waneroo raceway on saturday, Qualified first, won the first race, finished 7th in the reverse grid(we started last due to the previous win) and then won the last race

So all round it was a pretty good night, very little damage to the car- except for in the practice session... who smashes cars in practice...

But yeah, now thats out of the way, we have 3 weeks before the next meeting, so we should be able to get the bedford finished.
I've sanded back the couple of runs we had, and we'll touch them up tomorro, we've cleaned out the shed somewhat, so it no longer looks like 2inches of snow covering everything..
And hopefully tomorro arvo we'll be without distraction and can start cutting up the drivers door to make it fit.
When the vans finally done, i'll post the build thread..

You need a slide hammer .
Maybe able to bolt a loop of chain onto the axle and hammer it off that way.
Let's know what finally works please, as I'm about to dismantle mine also.
Funny old life.

ls120,

if you dont have a slide hammer, or its still not quite enough (i usually find cause i got a slide hammer) get an old wheel you dont care about. jack van up take drum off, bolt old wheel on. smack it with a sledge hammer in the direction you want the axel to come out. works every time for me:) thats why ive got so many bent up rims around the place he he:)

dont use heat on the housing unless you got a spare housing laying around either!!!!
