i still dont have a concrete price for the 1 piece back door..

van craft used to sell them for 1100!! i think thats insane. but im starting to understand why. lots of resin goes into a back door!

i originally said 500.. im saying 600 at the moment.. but i still have to find out how long it takes and how much product and all that..

will let ya know when done.

im going to be doing the easy roller fibreglass front in the next few months $900.

G'day

Another busy week for me.
I pulled the bent mudguard off my VX wagon and started repairing it.

I fired up the replacement motor in my VS series 2 Equipe Wagon today.

I sold a couple of old cars, swapped a couple of Mazda Bongo vans for a Bedford TK pantech with 308V8, and bought a couple of VS sedans.

Here is Outback car carrying:

He only had to travel about 750km to get home and the "planks" are internal house doors, and yes he made it home.

Back to the VS wagon
I seized the motor on the way home from buying it last month.
I pulled the motor out and pulled it down and found that the front main bearing had grabbed. The motor looked very good on the outside but had lots of sludge and gunk on the inside.
I was quoted $2900 for an exchange reconditioned motor or about a $1000 for the parts to rebuild my motor. I was not confident about rebuilding my motor without making a mistake. So I bought a slightly bent VS series 2 sedan with a reconditioned motor and pulled the motor out and put it into my wagon. Actually I bought 2 sedans. The first one was $150 with a good motor but the motor was no good and the second one was $400 with a reconditioned motor that is good.

Swapping motors took a fair amount of time as I did not know what I was doing and I kept double checking that everything was connected correctly. I made a few mistakes and it would have been a lot easier if I had someone helping who had done it before.

Here is a photo of the motor and box coming out:

I am still not keen about the V6s, just tooo many fiddly bits.
Just another busy week.

How did he get the car up onto the ute?  Do you have any photos of the car being put up onto the ute?
He is a crazyman has he not heard of trailer hire shops, he even seems to have a towball.

G'day
I couldn't take any photos a I was the one who put it there with my 4.5 ton forklift, with slippers and sideshift.

Due to ebay being stuffed up, he thought that I was only 200kms away (courtesy of ebay) and it was not until he had won and paid for it that he found out just how far ebay is in error. Dragging a trailer for nearly 1500kms on a round trip would have cost a heap of fuel. I got the impression that money was a major issue.
And after all he did make it home, and that is all that matters.

Well, I thought I had better get started on the van if we want it finished by the end of Feb(its going to be pushed)

1.  I stripped the interior out and found

a. an ants nest
b. a field mouse nest
c. a wasps nest ( moved pretty quick when I found the last one)
not much rust"
has had a heap of work done in the past ,but found that where it took the hit in the drivers front guard it had been cut and welded previously. and as the guard was welded at the seams I cant help but think the damage would have been less if it had not been welded in the past as the guard would have had more give in it.

stripped the floor with a wire wheel and used penetrol to seal  the lot  its great in the tight areas(penetrol runs like water rather than paint but seals out rust and makes paint stick)
then cold galvanized all the areas that attract moisture, after this I used a special rust kill primer in white to paint over the lot and now it is ready for lining.

2.
I cut away most of the damged guard to check the extent of the damage

3. I started to clean the gutters( wire wheel on the grinder was great for this as it fits in the gutter track)

I have posted some pics in the gallery and will post some more tomorrow

Hi all and a happy New Year to you all.

Well I had a great week last week. Having hauled the van off the road a bit over a year ago to do some minor modifications to the interior, I finaly got it back to the stage where I could fire her up again. Yeee Haaa!!. Took a bit of coaxing to get going, (no fuel getting to the carb) but with that sorted and a new battery fitted she fired up. After warming her up a bit I backed her out of the garage and washed off the years worth of dust and took her out for a drive. Great feeling to be back behind the wheel. Everything worked so I must have done something right.

Booked a guy in to come and skim the front discs, fitted up some new disc pads, then took her down for a WoF and got her registered again. Awesome feeling. Now it's just a matter of finishing off the rest of the interior and '09 Van Nationals here we come.

So what have I done over the last year. Not Enough!!

The whole interior was stripped out, then the all the panels lined with Dynamat. Even without the interior back in or the carpet down it has quietened down the interior noise heaps so looking forward to getting the rest in. The dash was rebuilt with a new gauge layout and new control switches fitted along with resiting the fuse panel. The overhead console was modified and the overhead speakers removed and replaced with new units in the front doors. Miles of new wiring was fitted into the console so now all the switches fitted up there all have a purpose and work. The new dash, overhead console, door panels and engine cover were repainted and refitted.

The rear now has a new 19" LCD fitted that required the side cabinet to be increased in depth by 110mm. The console above this is now modified to suit. The rear panel across the back was modified and also now has the two side quater panels molded into it. The video player is history, along with the old playstation, both being replaced by a chipped Xbox for games and movies. New interior lighting is being added and the roof is undergoing some cool alterations. A new grunty deep cycle auxilary battery is being fitted along with a new 1000W pure signwave inverter to provide 230 volt power. An air compressor and air tank is also being fitted to run the super loud Hornblaster air horns. The bulk of the rear interior is complete and once the final bits are sorted it'll be pulled down for finishing and final fitted in the next few weeks.

I'll post some before and after pics under a new topic soon.

Catch you later,
Garry.
