I made the number up, as if everyone was going to look for porn  - I guess it's one of those "you had to be there moments" :/
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

Well..been a lil while between maintenance shifts..and as she is my daily driver...some much needed TLC..

changed over the lower control arm bushes today..on my LWB....

got em for trade so was happy w new Nolathane bushes from Pedders..

The hard part was getting the actual bush out....

once i had the control arm in the vice..  i hacksawed off the collar /excess of the old bush..

then drillled small holes in a clock wise direction....this broke up the old rubber...

once it was partially destroyed..i was able to pull the center of the old rubber out with a pair of vice grips..

did the same with the other end..then cleaned up the bores with emery paper...

Bolted it all back together....n brmmmm brmmm..back on the road... 8)

Just bookmark the main forum page in your browser and go straight to it each time instead of using the main page. I use Firefox and the tab just automatically reloads each time I start my browser. I haven't had any trouble at all.

It's not a site virus or we would all be hit.
see the virus thread for details

This week I have spent my spare time fixing the wife car, and I now really appreciate working on a CF.

The wife's car is a late model front wheel drive, automatic little buzz box which doesn't cause much grief until this week.
The water pump started to leak water in a big way. A quote from a mechanic was quite horrendous, ie he didn't want to do it.
I downloaded a service manual and had a read. It didn't sound to hard.
First mistake.

I decided I could do the job and save myself a tidy sum of money.
Second mistake.

The water pump is located behind the timing belt so I decided to put a new belt in while I was about it. I used a mates trade account to get new belts and a pump. There are 2 types of timing belt for the same motor so I had to pull the motor apart to find out which one I would need. Apparently this is common.
I started pulling the front of the motor apart. My hands are about twice as large as they should be for a little job like this. It took 2 afternoons just to get it apart. The "front" of the motor is wedged up against the drivers side chassis rail and inner guard. There was not enough room for a standard 3/8 socket set. I mostly used 1/4 drive and even then had to shorten some of the sockets.
I identified and bought the correct belt kit. 2 new oil seals came with it so I decided to put them in.
Third mistake.

The old seals came out OK but trying to put the new ones in was a drama. None of the usual tricks would work. The crankshaft had a sharp shoulder and did not protrude very far. After a lot of trial and error I finally made a guide for the seal from a plastic lid off a Pepsi bottle.
Putting the rest back together took another 2 afternoons.
I had to make several specialist tools and shorten existing tools including sockets.
Me, and about 10,000 mozzies, have just finished it in the dark.
It now works again!
I now understand why the mechanic didn't want to do it. I don't want to do it again. I saved myself a lot of money but got a lot of grief.
The car is obviously designed by an engineer with no input by anybody who would have to service it. A water pump is something that WILL need to be replaced. Why make it so difficult?
I asked a couple of mechanics and was told a bunch of horror stories about servicing modern vehicles.

Working on a CF is a "walk in the park" compared to what I have just been through.
The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!
