pardon my ignorace, but what is the reason for having a mid mounted engine. all i can think of is it would get in the way of cargo space
Because it can be done ?

I don't think practicallity and this van go together, it's a show van not a work horse.

May be so you can do the job on the engine cover with out hitting your head on the dash
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer

It depends where you mount it. Busy has 2 vans anyway so who cares about cargo space in the custom. The reason for having a midmounted engine is it moves the weight of the engine back towards the centre of the vehicle and more evenly distributes the weight over all 4 wheels. If you can lower the motor at the same time even better. Shifting the centre of balance in this way does wonderful things for the handling. Mine is mounted between the 2 front seats so not quite as radical as Busy's and has made for interesting times with the seating but even when I had the 186 in there it handled quite well aside from the poxy diff and rear springs.

Most custom vans have no cargo space, they have either a bed or seating with a cabinet or something. I could still have a bed if I wanted but am leading towards putting in a stripper pole and getting some vertically challenged females

I did the mid mount because I thought it hadn't been done before - was wrong
Didn't really think about the handling angle of it, have had my days as a hoon (ok on the bike I haven't haha)

Bas, I was going to do whole white front and roof so the flames start out yellow on the white, with white flames in the yellow so there isn't a start of the flame, it all just 'burns' in as such  8)

There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

Maybe I should have said "It improves the quality of the ride".  ;)

If David puts a pole and girls in the back, that would also improve the quality of the ride............ ;D but might get a little to hot in the back... Eg: Girls / Motor....
