so the important question is, with all these spare blown up transmitters, what are the chances of getting hold of an fm transmitter so i can start a mobile pirate radio station in my bedford.. "pump up the volume" style?

G'day
Yeah Strez I would sell the Jeep in a flash, but it is a company car, and they seem to think that it is a great car, even though it handles like a pig, chews fuel and breaks down a lot.
When I started the new job I sold my beloved 740 turbo to a neighbour as I didn't need it anymore. I used it in my last job as a building supervisor.
After driving the Jeep for a week I was so disgusted with it I went to my neighbour and tried to buy back the Volvo. He loved it so much he said NO WAY!
It has taken me 3 months ( and more money) to talk him around.

Regards

Chris

G'day Bren

These Transmitters are BIG and run on 3 phase. The STC ones would not even fit in a CF van.
I was in a Transmitter hut the other day and the old transmitter is still there as it is too big to get out the door.
That said there are FM transmitters out there that will do the job. I have seen them. The problem is going to be the Antenna. if you want coverage it will need to be big. I just replaced a small array. It consisted of 5 pieces, each the size of a lounge chair, on top of a 50m tower. The cost of parts alone was over 20 big ones. If you you were running around in a van with a big aerial I think you may be found out.

And if you cause interference they WILL hunt you down, and the fine will really hurt.

If you don't interfere with anyone you can have a ball though, not that I have done it (recently anyway).
If you want to do it you will also want a laptop with appropriate studio automation software such as NexGen:
http://www.rcsworks.com/en/products/nexgen/default.aspx

Have a look for ebooks on Podcasting such as:
http://rs25.rapidshare.com/files/4125887/OReilly_Podcasting_Hacks.chm

Next time I would set up an Internet Radio Station and just stream out of a laptop into a transmitter when available.

Regards

Chris

Just got out of the garage, been looking at the bonnett for a few weekends and not touching it .... so got off me butt and hit the bonnet with a sander and grinder back to bare metal and then undercoated it, damn spray gun had a blockage, started off nice and even and very patient to get an even coverage, then damn spray gun dropped a couple of drops and wrecked my good work so thought what the heck and just sprayed over it without that important ingredients ... patience and care. Now I am looking forward (not) to rubbing it all back and respraying the undercoat next weekend ... oh well, the joys of vannin, and I learned that moulding the WRX scoop and getting even lines and curves is not as easy as it seems  :P
ekm ...... never lead with your chin, let others lead with theirs
