It really depends what motor you've got and what you want from it, but impco are about the best low maintenance high reliability gas systems out there, if you're running a 6cyl I think its the impco 200 that you'll want (something around there) I'm running an impco 425 on my 350 chev as a dual fuel setup. I have a 120L tank (100L usable) and I get excellent fuel economy despite the fact that I thrash the old girl. Could not be simpler to tune.
An Impco gas mixer sets you back about $200 brand new, a model E convertor or B2 etc will set you back around $200 also, then you need the lock offs which are around $30, the gas system fail safe around $50, some gas hose, the tank etc. for well under $1k you can have this setup running and installed by a pro.

Gas research systems have great horsepower potential. The downside is that they 'fall out' of tune often and can be finicky. Injected would obviously be the best option, but if money were no object we'd all have gold plated engines to go with it.

Warren,
im just about to fit my fuel tank up again, my van is dual fuel & my lpg tank is on the wall behind the drivers seat, if you were me, would you ditch the fuel tank, have the gas tank refitted under? Can you get a tank to fit where the fuel tank goes? I have the "next generation" type holley lookin' mixer...
Then i would just have to have the head modified for just gas?...cheers!

In my previous post I said I would run a scuba and doughnut, the scuba tanks are in the late model ford gas cars they are shallower than the normal tanks and would be ideal for where the petrol tank is.

You could mount your original tank where the spare wheel is to get the tank out of the cab, or for easier fitting use the doughnut ones, they are round (DOH like a doughnut :) ) and fit easily into the existing spare wheel space.

Often engines run on gas burn valves because they lean out at higher revs, possible because of the sub optimal (dual fuel) tuning or the converter not being sized correctly for the amount of gas flow required.

In your current situation I would get your distributor re curved for gas, time it for gas and run it as straight gas. All the while looking on ebay for the scuba and doughnut tanks and a converter for a 350 chev, (not sure what cubic feet per minute).

The straight gas/timed correctly setup could dramatically reduce the risk leaning out and burning valves so you could run it as is till such time it does stuff up and then rebuild it with the stelite valve seats.

If it anint broke don't fix it :)

isn't it more like Abbott screwing us ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
