Good and Bad parts dealers/ mechanics
« on: July 01, 2014, 01:29:57 PM »
I think it would be really helpful to have a a section dedicated to mechanics and places to gets parts for Bedfords. It could save alot of people getting ripped off and so forth. Let me give you an example.

A couple of years ago I went to Joe from Jb Auto in Dandenong with my First Bedford zero knowledge and a car that needed work. This was recommended by google as the place to go for Bedfords and ford transits. He said he would have a look and let me know what I needed. After calling him once a week for 4 weeks he had not even taken a look at my car. So I just picked it up and took it home. What a waste of time.

I have since gotten rid of that one and moved onto a new Bedford. I saw another post recommending him as a great parts supplier. So I thought maybe he was just having a bad month Ill try him again. I went down there yesterday and asked for a few things electronic distributor, Highway Diff, Supra gearbox, and a few other things. He gave me a price which made me burst into laughter. $190 for an second hand electronic distirbutor ( I have already had 3 qoutes for under a hundred) He asked how much have you been quoted and I said $60 which is true and a great price, he tells me ok ill do $80... lol. I mean why would I pay more... He then gave me a price for a hwy diff of $2000... once again I laughed. It was like this for every part. I told him I could get these things much cheaper.

He then told me a story about how a guy came in  with a camper from NZ and he sold a diff for $2000. he told me this guy hadnt done any research and needed one straight away. so he paid it and that he was a dumb customer with lots of money and I was a smart customer with no money...

1. How does he know what I have and do not have I just want a fair price.
2. This guy adjust his price for what he thinks he can get not what the value you of the item is.
3. He totally ripped off the guy from N.Z and thinks its a good story...

Anyways Im really not one to bitch but this made me so mad as he has posted everywhere he is well priced and good service.. both of these things are FAR from the truth. I have now found other post of people having similar experiences of dealing with this guy.

Where do people go in the BUGA community for parts other then gumtree, ebay in melbourne.. Who are mechanics that give great service and do a fantastic job?

Hey Joshua, you want a tip on a place to go for good honest cheap beddy parts, try benny on here, he use to have lots of beddy parts. Also try a mate of mine, Rob at bedford manor here in brissy, he normally has most gear.
As for a section on here, that would be difficult unless someone was in charge of doing regular updates, as businesses come and go. The only other suggestion would be to make BUGA your first port of call, if you cant find it here, or find where to go then it dont exist.

If you make a thread for beddy info (or anything really), try make the title descriptive as possible to the content, this will help in a site search for such stuff.
Most are already but a lot of threads go off topic and a lot of good info can be lost inside them
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

Hey George,

I havent tried benny but i will give him a crack I have been talking to Rob And he is totally reasonable in price its just the transport that is a killer..

I managed to repair the gearbox which I have to say was a very good feeling as its the first time I have ever seen inside one.

Hi Josh,

I have to say, i'm with Jimi on this one. You have to appreciate that Joe is the poster boy for eccentric. I have purchased may parts from Joe over the years and have come to take him for what he is. Although i would never take my car there for service etc for those exact same reasons. I have all of my cars - corvettes - work cars - daily and bed fords all serviced by Joch Motors in Dandenong Street Dandenong. 9793 1277 and ask for Stuart. He actually has 2 of my cars there as we speak. Great guy with a conscience!

Joe can be extremely generous believe it or not and unfortunately many people have taken advantage of this fact by taking things with the promise of payment but never go back. Maybe that add's to his 'cray pricing'

Anyway mate, try Stuart at Joch if you're stuck.

Cheers
