well that turned to poo, made up the arm, adjusted the other and blam it didn't work :(
the shifter is right above the gear selector so may have to run a cable
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

gday busy sorry about the delay, when you say accesory holes im not sure what u mean, but the only holes in the crossmember are the mounting holes which are elongated.  theres no other mounting holes for the crossmember to the chassis itself. the red wire coming down i have no idea about. by inhibitor switch do you mean that it wont start in drive etc? could be? or reverse light? if you want me to take measurements aswell i can...

Hi Busy, why don't you move the shifter foward on the van floor is this posabile, my 202 is fitted to factory mounts so are dead the same as the bedford mounts (postion) no soild shifter is going to work when the are directley above each other you need to put some distance between them. Sorry I tell a lie again you can get this to work when the are above each other. Hard to explain in words so will draw a piture and post it for you, it is to make a sissor arm, eg bracket from shifter goes forward towards front of van another bracket pivots of this and goes back to the trans arm this gives the distance need between the to arms because both ends of the backets have a solid fix it does work, I did this many years ago when I fitted a V6 to a Transit. TRUST ME............  ???

Sorry forgot to say if my minds serves me right the arm going forwad from the shifter must have a soid fix to the shifter and be on a slight angle downwards and the arm attached to the trimatic lever must also be a soild fix on a slight upward angle the only part that moves is where these to solid brackets - arms join together. Think I have it right, will sleep on it.  Cheers

i thought i would ask in this thread instead of creating a new one...

im putting a 4 speed m20 in and i have looked at where the gear stick needs to sit and i see a problem.. that position works for the three speed but the four speed with its reverse is a different story.

the most obvious answer looks like you mount your shifter in the original position at the rear and rig up a dummy shifter with some sort of rod between the two so they act together.

anyone with this rig have pics? or if their is another thread that has the info could you provide the link?

Gidday able
Our club secretary has done this conversion into his cf truck. He couldn't have the shifter come up out of the box as it would come up behind the cab of the truck so would make changing gear rather difficult. He runs a 3.3 blue holden commodore motor and a commodore 4 cylinder 5 speed gearbox. So being the clever bugger he is, he fabricated up remote linkage shifter that mounted to the bell housing and mirrored the movement of the shifter down the back.

Next time I speak to him I will ask if he can bring in the pictures and drawings of it so I can scan them and post them on here for all to see.

His system works very well, even down to the slight push down to engage 5th gear.

Will let you know how I get on, if this would be of use to you.

Cheers Jeff
Just customize it!

Hi Guys....I have a 4 speed m20 in my van and i spent 2 whole days trying out this same idea but i failed ??? The real drama was the pushdown /across/and forward movement for reverse. I tried rigging up a tierod on the bottom of a dummy stick and welded to a square frame bolted to the floor. 3rd and 4th were fine but i had dramas with 1st and 2nd. So if some one can show a pic of a system that works i try it.!!! :) ;D
