Shifter linkage
« on: January 08, 2009, 07:13:08 AM »
Hi all,
I got the aussie running gear in my standard van (3.3 and trimatic), I was told the trans used the original bedford mounts - it didn't, and was told the bedford auto shifter goes straight in - it doesn't.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, is anyone able to take some photos of the shifter linkage if you have a standard CF shifter on a trimatic box, also the trans mount mounting points on the body.

Much appreciated

Busy, busy, busy...

You know better than that. Nothing ever bolts straight up. You of all people know that.  ;D

We actually found it easier to convert the trimatic to a cable shift on mine especially as it was mid-mounted, and I used a Toyota Celica shifter. Really nice shifter too.

I've pulled all the running gear out of mine now but I still have the bits that we used to do the conversion. I can take photos if you like so you can see what was done. I then had a cable made up to connect everything by Melbar Engineering down here. They specialise in making up automotive cables and do a damn good job too!

I thought of a cable but because the shifter is straight above the selector I'd have to do a S shape.
the front beam is factory OZ

Tell you what, this standard van is more of a pain in the butt than the custom

Hi Busy, sorry for late photo's been (busy). Will load photo's by them self if they do not load to a good size to view, this is on my van before I changed it to the overdive unit, it is factory setup for Trimatic and Holden 202 with CF shifter. The connecting rod is 20.5 cm long. Crossmember is also standard factory with the Trimatic. Hope this helps. Will have colour code for wires for factor 202 Cf tomorrow as soon as I find the book.

Shame you're not local to Wellington. Was at the local pick-a-part this morning and they have a jumbo in there with a 186 conversion. I thought it was factory till I noticed the floor had been cut back a bit. The engine mounts look factory installed which is what threw me.

It uses the standard CF shifter but there is a really tricky linkage system that crosses under the floor and utilises a shifting point on the passenger side of the Trimatic.

Sounds like the system you looked at was a trimatic with overdrive on it as they exit on the left hand side of the box.
