Howdy all, sorry for delayed update been soo busy it sucks...still haven't touched the shorty for 9/10 months now, it's killing me......

I was successful to get the SL17 cap to fit, however it did take a bit to do so....and luckily I had / used a dent puller to lift or raise the inside edge a smidge just enough for the internal locking tabs to bight,  the SL 17 by the sounds of it is not a perfect fit or a replacement part as it does require a bit of manipulating, and if your not handy or have a repco in your shed , you will be up against it....I just thought the make shift cap someone had used prior had squeezed my fuel neck somehow, I'll take some pics today..
Can I go play now...?

Got your PM Hobbit , thank you . I thought hellelujah ran to my cap then ran to my van and tried your method to no avail .
As hard as l tried it would not lock . As Dano just said , i do believe with some form of manipulation it could fit . So close yet so far.
I bought the cap from epay , the one mentioned in Hobbits last post .
Looking forward your photos Dano .

     Cheers FRank

Sorry that didn't work for you, FRank.

According to the CPC vehicle chart, the SL17 cap was for all early models, and the SL41EC from '75 on.
This info used to be printed on the packaging.

These CPC caps should be a perfect retrofit, mine was. The locking tabs of your new cap should measure the same distance apart
as the tabs on your original.

I've used one of these SL41EC caps from the early 80s and only recently replaced it with another, after the stainless plate outer started looking a little bit warped. (Time warped)

Here's those photo;s promised, It fits , but as with everything a little modification was required, I think and hope someone had squished the filler neck prior...I'd hate to think that these "replacement parts"  are as is?
