if money isn't an object get one of the universal hot rod air con set ups from the states - very universal.
Anything else requires a lot of cutting and welding to fit
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

george, here are some links, or do google search for auto air con, or hot rod air con

http://www.classicautoair.com/Street_Rod_Air_Conditioning_AC.html  (heaps of styles)
http://www.summitracing.com/int/search/brand/vintage-air
http://tswf.com/koolkarzonline/elite_std.cfm
http://www.melwideautoradiators.com.au/radiator-products-for-sale/universal-fit-underdash-heater-aircon/

John, I don't think any jappa air con units will fit, I had a rav4 one in mine but I don't have the engine in the front so was able to use the full length of the dash. The rav4 was one of the skinniest ones I found though. I was going to try a unit out of a van, some of the mitsi and toyota sport vans have a seperate aircon in the back with vents on the roof pointing down but was run in series with the main aircon unit.
The main aircon out of a van wont fit as it's to tall.
Some of the older titan and isuzu trucks have little aircon units but are 24volts
