Not really any information on these forums about this, so tell us how noisy it is in your van when driving along.

Bloody noisey on a long trip, so much that i have a spare set of earplugs in the cab for those drives. I have no roof lining or carpet in my truck so that would not help the situation much.
I will be looking at putting some of that sound proofing (dynamat) stuff in one day.
cheers..Johnno ;D

cheers Brian O, any hard surface in what is essentially a metal box will be cause noise bounce off, you will need suitable insulating behind the lining, I lined a beddie with unsealed cedar boards which absorbed the noise rather than reflecting it, dunno about floating floor boards though they appear to have a hard surface .... I'm talking about all noise in general. Engine, wind road etc.

I'm hoping that my van will be used for long trips and camping so I hope that I can insulate it enough so that its quite like a modern car. Am I dreaming?

yep dreaming shane haha..

nah ive herd of people getting them reasonably quiet. and marias van is quite good.. only problem is her exahst sounds like a 4cyliner too.. maybe thats why.

my van is really really noisy as at moment.. hahaha i carry ear muffs john!! i improved the situation with sound deadner on top of the floor throughout.

next step will be fix exhast to exit vehicle to the side. (at the moment it finishes infront of diff underneath vehicle..

next step will  be engine cover sealed up.. had my foot on it for 6 months now lol

then next step will be fibreglass floor ontop of 1 inch polystine. then on walls and roof too then fibreglass.

next step will be (after no oil leaks hmmm) sound deadner underneath floor.

hopefully by that stage people will be happy to come places with me in my van rather than taking their own car because its so damn noisy!

cheers
ben

my SWB  is as quiet as, its got that silver backed rubber insulation under the floor and inside engine cover, 2 layers of carpet in front, walls and roof insulated then ply with carpet underlay on then covered in crush velvet.
ben even commented on how quiet it was when we went for a drive in it 2 pick up fiberglassing material.
