Gearbox swap Q
« on: December 01, 2013, 05:12:34 PM »
I picked up a 4 speed gearbox to replace my old 3 speed but it seems I could be in strife with the linkages setup.
The selector bit is at the back of the 4 speed whereas it`s at the front on my 3.
Is there a writeup or something on this changeover? Am I going to have to cut a hole back further for the shifter?
Cheers , Bob.

I have a modded 4 spd shifter to fit at the front and changed operation for reverse, It's in the shed some where at the farm.
I took the 4 spd out to fit toyota 5 spd. be up there Tuesday night if I remember could get a pic.

Bob

I posted a reply to a question you asked previously about this (see some of your previous posts) and also I have commented on this very thing before.

"When I bought the 4 speed it came out of a holden one tonner, and I got the box and shifter.

when I installed the gearbox I mounted the shifter in the standard position (bolts straight in) I also used the two three speed linkages for the forward gears (no mods required) and one of the 4 speed linkages for reverse Had to mod it a bit, (cut and bend from memory).

I also had to rebend the reverse selector leaver up a bit to stop it fouling on the bell housing, nothing drastic, and bend the stub that the gear lever sit on forward so that the gear sits forward.

Have a look at my gallery for some pics."

When you get closer to doing it and need more info PM me your number and I can talk you through it.

Warren

I fitted the 4sp shifter to my 3sp box today so thats a start eh .
Ethyl , I will have to pass on the shifter you mentioned . Thanks anyway ( hope I haven`t put you to too much trouble ).
I will wait for a rainy day and pull the 4sp apart to make sure it`s ok before I bung it in .

Took the side off my 4 speed (M20) and found these UFO`s  inside   ??? .
The gears all look fine so am wondering where they came from .
Can anyone recognise them?
Surely someone wouldn`t repair a box and leave these inside!!
I didn`t want to disassemble it but maybe no option  :'( .
