hi all needto put a question out here.... "ol futile" has a trimatic 3 speed in it  round 100kms its revs are around 2800.. an at 110 are 3080.... if i could put a 4 speed auto in..would my ratios be more better reduced or not much variation open to suggestion of autos to use, pitfalls etc too cheers in advance,  yor collective thoughts are  much appreciated as always .. skippy :-) :-)

So it's got a 3.08 diff in it then Might be a bit stiff for the old 6 cylinder with 4 speed auto as it will take about 1000 rpm off it in top gear & it will be constantly changing from 3rd to top A 3.45 diff would be better

sorry reid didnt mention it has a 253 in it dedicated to gas think ben IDed the diff as a bedford with a highway centre in it?? from memory ..

That's cool Skipp Yeah just wack the OD Auto in it & your revs will drop to 1800 at 100 ks just like my v8 falcon PERFECT

OD = overdrive. 3rd is 1:1 and 4th is less.

i knew that!!..           thanks guys know of any particular ones that go straight in or do i have to go an adapter plate ?? cheers

I have a vn t700 on the 2fluffy3 with an adaptor plate think it came from Castelmain rod shop. Needs to be a 5 liter auto because the v6 belhousing is too small. The vn t700 has the mechanical overdrive and locking converter and kickdown cable so you can hold it in gears. Best mod ever done but just be careful on the free way as it tends to hit the 110 and 120 a bit easier than it used too.

mate, you need an adaptor plate.  Only problem is that a T700 behind the inline 6 still means that you have to cut the floor to fit it. 
I've got a spare in T700 in the shed if anyone wants it.

Skippy's is a 253 bent 8. Therefore the question is.... what difference is there in the tranny housing bolt pattern between a 253 and a post VN V8 T700.
