bertoukI cant be sure this is fake either, It was created by an Australian Host. And the email address used isn't on any spam DB.

Craig O (there are 4 users with this name)This happens sometimes. Can be a mix of things that cause this.

I deleted the usernames that are obviously spam, I left a few that I cant be sure about and I left the ones that are valid.
It helps a lot to have people sort through the member list for accounts are appear to be fake. Thanks
Shane

I see our member count has gone down substantially from 400+ members to 190.
Did the spammers/bots create 200+ fake accounts overnight?? That's crazy!

Good to see that you have cleaned it all up now, much appreciated mate.
If your ever in Sydney give me a call and I'll buy you a beer or ten :)

There were a lot of accounts that were created but were never activated. Lots of bots and lots of valid users. I just rejected (and sent email) all registrations that hadn't been activated in the last 30 days.

I'll be in Sydney on the 19th for Jan for a week.

Hi everyone and especially Shane.

Firstly, I would like to extend an apology to all the Moderators, especially Shane if my last post came accross as an attack on your personal abilities and efforts, as this was in no way my intention. I was just shocked to see that the left hand collum had turned into vertually nothing but kiddy porn posts over night and within only a few hours and I didn't want this sort of thing to jump accross onto my computer or worse my home network. I have a 9 year old and I can't think of many things worse than if this sort of thing poped up on his computer.

My refusal to come back till cleaned up was me protecting my family from those nasty buggers out there, not an attck on the moderators. Thanks for the e-mails Shane! ;)

Personally, I love this forum and although I haven't as yet met anybody, I feel a kin to everyone here. There is a great bunch of people on this site and it would truly be a shame to have it ruined by a bunch of A Holes that should be locked up, serving up thier A Holes to big hairy men for a cigarette.

Nice job on the speedy repair job! Now if only I could do the same with my Beddy!....... ;D

Look Im glad to see that everyone is working this thing out.
No one is to blame for this except the spammers.
I notice it got a bit heated on here.

Now I think we need to all take our Hat off to shane who puts in his time for free, along with all the moderators.
I guess it goes to teach everyone a lesson. rather than bitching and blaming each other if everyone works together all the problems can be worked out.

all I can say is
great site, great people and we would all be lost if it didnt exist

Shane has implemented new procedures to the "New Member Registration" procedure which I think will stop a lot of the rubbish coming through.

Do we need to close the forum to guests? Meaning you have to log in to read or post.

Pros

No more spam!

Cons

If we do this then we risk loosing search engines finding our site. New members will have to "stumble over" us with little help from Google etc!

Please add your comments for or against or both! ???

Sounds your having a hardcore flashback to 1994 there doofhard! You just left out the, 'Hocus Pocus'. Are you sure you weren't a Raver back in the early-mid 90s? ::)
