Hey just a thought.
how about implementing a code that needs to be entered to make a post.

youve all seen them usually they are in upper and lowercase or a bit squigly with a line through the text so a web robot cant work them out.

that way there is no long registration process, and we get rid of the spam?

That system works well for registrations, but if I had to decipher and enter a code each time I posted, I wouldn't post.

Things can be done (like you said) things like having the Mods approve new members first "X" number of posts. No posts with links in them till "X" number etc.

The idea is to have it hard for the Bots, but not to inconvenient for the actual users.

I have seen one, yes one spam (which I reported) in this and the old forum (one in total)

I take my hat of to admin and mods for keeping this a spam free site.
I'm a mod at a webmaster forum, we remove over 50 a day, we use key word matching but honestly it is more trouble than it's worth as it often picks up innocent posts. the fuzzy number thing can be got around with bots.

Cheers
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

Thanks all you guys that appreciate the input that I and others put in.

I have just allowed our current mods access to all areas of the forum. I think I may have missed some but I'll get around to adding you shortly.

I have also set the forum so that all registrations need to be approved by me. Eventually I will have the moderators setup so that they can also approve the registrations.

You have my vote of confidence, it took me a while to decide to transfer from the old site which i was a bit pissed you guys decided to shut down, but I was wrong - you and the team of moderators are doing a great job.
I am pleased I missed the post but as far as I am concerned that just shows how quick your team act.  I have seen some harmless spam but it is gone when I log in next, as a member of the site I cant ask more than that.

keep up the good work.

Cheers
Dave

And who would that be that you "think you may have missed"??? I wouldn't be one of them would I?
