5 speed celica
« on: August 01, 2013, 03:09:19 PM »
Hi Guys,

Not being mechanically minded - if i wanted to keep my standard diff, would fitting a celica 5 speed give me the highway cruising i am after? has anyone done this? The diff is as sweet as a nut but its not the borgwarner type (i think)

Any help will be greatly appreaciated.

thanks

Mezzmo

If it's in the 4.1 ratio range, yes, if in the 5.1 range, know

I have the Celica 5 speed in mine and it still revs too hard. Better but still not nice. I will be leaving the 5 speed where it is and changing my diff to get it just the way I want it.

Had one in a Jumbo behind a 202 Holden, with the Jumbo diff it reved to much in 5th, think ratio was around the 5.1 mark, put a short Wheelbase diff in at 4.1 and it sat around 2200 rpm at 100ks, was not perfect but have driven many Factory vans that were around the same.

Mezzmo. a diff ratio change is on the cards for sure, if you want a good ride, and in the past have found at around a 3.7 is perfect behind a 202 ( 6cyl )  with a 5 peed and a 3.5 with auto, but look at sitting it on 15-17" wheels as this will also change the drive out come as I can remember (just) from my early years I drove a Bedford with a 186 / 5 speed and standard 4.1 diff on 17" x 65?  or 70 and it drove perfect....
