9" has the square type backing plate, and the 10" is round and looks like it is built in.

9" diff plate in photo

Yes Gordon is right, if you have a diff plate like the one in the photo its a 9" anyway.

aah well I've found a couple of good pics elsewhere on the forum, if a 9" has a square diff housing, then mines definitely 10", more like this pic borrowed from aussieneil  ;). (N.b subject to 100% margin of error, might go home and find I've actually got a transit haha  :D )

Yes 10", but strange to be under a Mk1 as these came out in the Mk2 van and maybe the Mk1 Jumbo?, a heavy duty diff than the 9" but with the 10" diff you can't change the centre for a higher ratio.

Oh sweet  ;D yes I recall my 85 lwb had the same diff, I was always a bit leery about it sitting behind a 308! Hmm another beddy mystery, Its a laterish cf1 I suppose.. either that or my original diff is lying in a paddock near taumarunui haha

New roof vents in yesterday, jeez did I feel guilty taking a saw to an original body! Rained heavily last night and no leaks.. that weren't already there  ;) .. anyway,  back to the sanding!

Hey erics8,
What kind of wheels are those on the van,
I like them but never got to find out the name.
Cheers
