my variation on disk brakes
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:43:22 PM »
I did a lot of reading here on this subject and even bought a conversion bracket kit to fit HQ on front
but thought maybe bigger would be better
]

this uses a VT twin piston caliper but I have a 314mm ventilated disk and 6 stud wheels
I used the HQ brackets as a basis for the Commy bracket as the caliper is further out from stub with bigger disk

Some more info on the conversion would be nice, like does it use the standard beddy hub, if not what one etc.

Looks like a standard LWB hub & blank commodor disc redrilled to suit the beddie hub You would prob have to machine the back of the flange to make it true Would be a piece of piss

all standard parts except bracket
standard Bedford stub axle
E series Mazda front hub
Pajero disk rotor
Commy VT caliper
manufactured plate with spacers to fit to stub axle and bolt caliper
( similar to HQ kit but 10 mm thick, further out from centre and the mounting holes are diff distance apart)
Mazda bearings with slight mod and spacers inside hub
Pajero rotor bolts straight on to Mazda hub

3 mm spacer behind inner bearing cone
6 mm spacer behind outer bearing cone
would like more but that is limt
6 mm spacer between outer bearing and nut to tighten
standard Mazda bearings machined/ground to fit Bedford stub
basically difference between metric and imperial
(bedford outer ID 1 inch=25.4 mm Mazda ID 25 mm)
grind out .4 mm= 16 th
inner bearing ID take out 4 th
over the counter seal Bedford ID Mazda OD
the Mazda bearings are actually bigger but hubs thinner

the guy at bearing place said the inner surfaces were not critical as they just sit on axle and would be OK to grind
it is a hardened surface so grinding seems to work best
