Intro and finally some good news
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:41:27 PM »
Hi fellow bugas, everyone calls me Medlock, been a member of here since just before I bought my beddy in Jan, but thought id hold of on the introduction until id had some progress on fixing it up. (long post inc. sorry!)

Long story short silly me thought I could buy it from SA and drive it back to where I live in the Blue Mountains NSW. Wasn't counting on the blown head gasket, great big holes in the top of 2 of the pistons, a dodge starter motor/ignition wiring and the constant overheating which wasn't helped by the 45 degree heat. Anyway after a new engine (202 red), basically rewiring the ignition system to replace some of the old wires and suit a standard bosch holden starter motor, installing a new barn door window that got smashed on the trip (another long story) and some general tidying up it was finally ready for the blue slip last wk.

Which not surprising it failed... but only due to a few very minor things! Which are now fixed and it'll be going back to pass on Friday so there'll soon be another Beddy on the road in NSW.

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for creating and maintaining this site, such an awesome Bedford resource. Hasn't been a problem I've come across that hasn't already been answered here, and has definitely helped me greatly with getting my van back on the road. Was a Bedford novice when I first started, with a general mechanical knowledge, now feel like I'm becoming a beddy expert haha. I'm fairly new to all this but have big plans for the big beddy so will keep you all updated with plenty of posts to come, and im sure I will probably need some help from all you bedford veterans at some point.

Look forward to chatting with you all and who know maybe one day meeting some of you, may have to do a road trip south when I get the bed in the back :)

Thanks guys. You probably will Marty, i'm in Lithgow but will probably be take it for a couple of test trips around the mountains first before i'm game for a long trip, Mt Vic and up Scenic hill and along Bells line should be a good test. Good to see there's another beddy around here, don't see many.

May take you up on that Hobbit, plan is to make a habbit of taking it to summernats every yr so may have to swing by on the way through.

Good to see another Beddy in an enthusiasts hands - i reckon apprentice mechanics should have to spend a "pre apprenticeship year" driving a Beddie, that way they would have had a heap of knowledge before they actually got started. I'm sure we would all agree to that!!!

Make sure you post plenty of pics on any progress you do

cheers

Hi Medlock,

Summernats, Excellent! I'd like to take my van over there for a run too. It would be good if any ACT
CF owners are interested in a meet up.  Summernats 27 is on January 2-5 2014.

Quick update, the van finally passed its blue slip today. After 2 wks of waiting for the only guy at my local mechanics that can sign off on a gas system to get back from holidays he was finally back and able to sign off on my slip, and because I had to wait so long they let me through even though I still technically just failed the brake test on my drivers rear drum, as long as I replace my rear wheel cylinders in the near future. Now just to wait til pay day so I can afford the stupidly expensive rego.

Hobbit we should definitely organise a CF owners meet up for Summernats, think I only saw 1 Bedford there this year and I barely ever seen any around where I live so would be good to meet everyone and see the vans. Will be my first time taking a worthy car so may even enter it just to do some parade laps. haha

Congrats on the Blue slip Medlock!
I just got through the re-rego hoops today myself, with my latest CF.
See you out west, maybe Ironfest next year?

finally got my rego yesterday and got to hit the road for the first time with the new engine. Did have some trouble with the chassis number though, it seems inside the front drivers door in the wheel well my van has both a Bedford compliance plate with a chassis number and a General Motors Holden compliance plate with its own number. My old rego (SA) and purchase receipt for some reason had used the Bedford one and the blueslip had used the holden one that is also stamped on the body so RTA or whatever  they are now wouldn't register it at first. Is this normal?
