ive herd about this worzel. how accurate is it? is it the early model with a grease nipple or the later model?

So from the emails so far my understanding is that
  -  there is only one type of upper ball joint  BJ24
  -  there are two types of lower ball joints being
            Ball Joint Lower up to chassis CY636000 BJ268 41.5mm  (Has grease nipple?)
            Ball Joint Lower from chassis DY600001 BJ148 43.2mm  (does not have grease nipple?)

does that mean if I look under my van and do not see the grease nipple it is the later 42.3mm ball joint

I didnt even think about replacing tie rods & ends, how likely is it that these will need doing?

Dave the tie rod ends wear and the rubber boots split allowing dirt in which encourages wear. Tie rods dont wear that much I just found the number so I put it in the post.

PS I would not trust the grease nipple idea as you can get all ball joints, tie rod ends etc in both configurations. Without a grease nipple may have the suffix e after the part number meaning encapsulated.

Worked for me, I phoned JW and said i wanted a ball joint, he said what size? , i said "DUH?, he said nipple or no nipple, i said nipple, i paid, he posted , i fitted, was good!

But It's a bedford so no guarantees :D

My van has the  higher chassis number and no grease nipple so I am guessing that it is the 43.2mm balljoint but I think I will just order both and return the one that is wrong fro a credit if they do that.

The top balljoints have grease nipples the lowers dont.
I wonder how many other grease nipples my van has that I have never greased.  I guess i should have a look at what I drive a bit closer, but I reckon preventative maintenance might be a bit late for the ball joints now they are all stuffed.

hey dave here,s what can happen when balljoints decide to let go.
and all my balljoints looked in great cond.
the month before i was traveling around nimbin, byron murwillumbah area,s with some dangerous gravel mountain roads to navigate.
 


lucky at the time i was in my parents home town traveling slow down a road with that many potholes it looked like the moons surface,  ( THANX TO NSW RTA) our roads are the worst in Australia.so ive been told from nearly every interstate traveller.

p.s/ when it lets go its either fix it there where it sits or towtruck home,
this wouldnt have been a pretty site if it let go at 100kms per hr or in the winding mountain roads, it was a few hundred metres drop if went over the side.
when i got it towed home i replaced all 4 balljoints, 2 tierod ends, tailshaft uni,s, complete clutch, g/box, rear brakes n gave it a full service.
