mezz's new baby
« on: December 08, 2012, 02:27:02 PM »
Got the new baby home yesterday, now its time to assess the bodywork in more detail but to date - its a real easy fixer, bugger all rust and very few dents - my panel beater / painter reckons she's an absolute pearler!!

Still haven't decided on what to do.....retro rebuild - easyroller - scooby doo or standard restore!! decisions decisions, either way it will be a thorough rebuild when the time comes - but i will say this, she has a sweet as a nut 173 red in her that just purrs like a pussycat and she also has drums all round which i had rebuilt last week  - all of which will not be changed for "discs" or EFI or 350's etc. whatver i do to her, the drive train will remail totally unmolested (excluding the diff). If it was good enough in the 70's well its good enough for me!!!

$hite Mezzmo thats one sweet Beddy.

If your going to keep the running gear standard, then go the whole hog - standard restoration would be my choice :)

NICE Mezzmo,  8)

That looks like the one which was selling for $6000. Phoned up about that one myself.
Love those old school seats. Well working drum brakes are still quite efficient. Cheers.

Hey Mez....If she was mine and i was keeping the drivetrain, I would be looking at doing a custom paint job
you know like a colour that was around in the 70s but with a trick pearl in the clear, then go widened original rims powder coated  with white walls and chromed hubcaps. Retro old school ;D ;D ;D ;D  She is a beautiful thing to behold ;) ;)

Hey Jonno we think alike mate, although if i go that way my choice of color was a toss up between that aqua/green ish colour you see on a few rods or a real pale butter yellow. Some Chrome highlights and the inside painted exactly the same with a timber floor (like the pick ups). I just cant decide. Trouble is Benny has too many fibreglass options for me to choose from now!

It is the same van Hobbit, i went and saw it some time ago and although in amazing condition, i thought 6K was a bit much - lets just say i was in the right place at the right time a few weeks ago and got it for substantially less than the original asking price.

Excellent Mezzmo, I have some genuine 'Cheviot' center caps, but they're not as choice as those. Thanks man, I'll give 'em a go. :) :) :)
