Camper Update
« on: October 03, 2008, 09:16:29 PM »
Hi guyes thought Id give you's an update on my camper as you saw in my gallery the rust was cut out under the pedals &the floor was painted I have moved 1 window back & panneld 2 off the seat bases were cut down 2 inches & the mew seats fitted I speuced up the dash a little so the cockpit is done the ply has been cut in for the floor so I can work off it to do the roof As you can see in the new lot of photos in my gallery I have taken the pop top off to check under for rust Just as well as a few small spots had started I have cleand up the gutters also that rubbery stuff they put it togeather with seames to shrink away from the metal & the moisture gets in & the rust starts You's all should check this out this seems to be the beddie's worst spot for rust so get into it now before it's too late By the way did you notice I can get it into the shed now just as well take the roof off & it bloddy rains Cheers Reid

Hi Reid, looking good, thanks for the updates and pics. Was it a big job getting the pop top off? and I noticed that your battery is in the passenger door step is that a preferred spot for you? Thanks for the tips on rust, if it stops raining today I might pop the top and have a looksee around the seams, also how and what did you treat your gutters with, I noticed they are painted a black colour, is that paint or some sort of compound? you are doing a great job with the resto mate and its really encouraging for us, keep up the good work  ;)

Thanks for the info Reid, sounds like you got the pop top removal sorted out, if I ever take mine off I would need at least four people to lift it clear off the van, my pop top is solid i.e. fold up wooden panels as opposed to canvas, are you going to simply paint the gutters or is there a method of treating them to make them more waterproof and longer lasting? by the way did yours come with cabinets fitted in the back doors? mine have factory fitted and they are real handy for storage of bits and pieces and doesn't mean you have to go into the van to find that cake of soap or roll of rse wipe when out camping, I should post some pics as I removed one of the rear door cabinets and replaced it with a panel and speaker box, prob is its raining at the mo. I am most interested in the window removal and reinstalling, how did you seal the windows? are they rubber seals or like mine aluminium framed? also can you share some llight on how you panelled the opening after removal of the windows, I will try to get some pics of what I've been up to but today I am going to a rugby tournament and tommorrow I have to work all day and then theres the league grand final tommorrow arvo, so may not be able to post pics this weekend but will try, regards, Eddy MAC

Hi Eddy posted some more picks in my gallery some of the pop top & some of the window's & panels I used Fullers colour caulk to re install the window & panel dont forget the stiffining rib it takes all the drum out of it I dont know what Im going to do with the gutters yet there are a couple of thickness of steel & is a bit rough to just paint I wiped a small smear of bog in the gutters of my coaster & sanded it smooth then painted & that worked fine if you use any rubbery caulking compound you cant sand it smooth No there were no cupboards on the rear doors but there seems to be enough room in them to do something As you can see in the photos the windows are aluminium & screw into a timber frame inside & the panels are pop rivited in I would like to see more picks of inside fitouts of all the campers to get some more ideah's & also how that pop top of your's works Cheers Reid
