hi has anyone any info on this motor conversion?

it must be probably one of the most common v8 conversions because of its simplicity.

planning a quick and painless conversion on my daily driver.

In terms of having one available it is likely worthwhile, tho from memory, the physical size is similar to that of a 308, which is FAR beneficial over a 253, and a 350 is smaller than both, which again is far beneficial.

engine mountings will bolt up in a similar fashion on 253 and 202(and smaller), tho the key is getting the motor as far back as possible.
My 350 does not mount using the side mounts, instead using somewhat custom front mountings.

I put a 253 into my last van. It took up quite a lot of space and I took more so I could get my hands around the motor for easier maintenance.
To overcome this problem and to leave room for my left foot I only cut floor and bulkhead from the passenger side and mounted the donk left of center and on a slight angle.
Other than moving the engine and gearbox mounts this created no problems at all.
The sound was awesome, ( at low revs it used to set off car alarms )but I did find I like the smoothness of a six better, but at least I can now say "I have owned a V8"

how far off centre to the left was the motor mounted?

I really don't remember, but about 2-3 inches, and the left one moved back to the edge of the crossmember.
I lined up the gearbox to split the misalignment with both universals.

253 and 308 are the same size only difference is the bore size 308 and 350 are both 90 degree v and very simmilar in size 350 slightly smaller across the heads we have a chev in ours plenty of feet room goes like stink and is mounted central

The van drove smooth and normal on a std 9 inch diff.
The angle of the drive shaft was no worse than the angle of the normal up and down movement you get with an empty or heavily loaded van, or on a bumpy road. Except this deflection was horizontal instead of vertical.
Universal joints require some misalignment for the rollers to move and so the wear is not taken on only one spot.

yeh im not interested in moving the mounts this time around. its my daily driver and ill need back on the road asap..
