Thanks Rogue, but what is the hinge made of? Did you use stainless? i figure painting the hinge would be near on useless so if its not stainless, how do you prevent the rust?

I did use stainless. You are correct.

It seems to have held up OK over time although it probably hasn't had quite as much use as it would have if it had been on the road more frequently.

There was a discussion on here somewhere over whether a piano hinge was suitable or not and I'm not ruling out having to come up with something else for whatever reason in the future but for now it seems to be OK. I guess the main test will be the certifying engineer.

hey groovers.... had a good gander at it and it has been mounted in the same fashion as rougues  has mounted his.... could well be a piano hinge but to me seems a tad heavier duty for a keyboard cover...maybe the hinge that holds the top on where one looks inside ??? or possibly a grand piano hinge ??? ok, dimensions of the hinge are , flange that is tack welded to the doortop.. 14mm. hinge centre diameter round the 6.5mm. flange that is screw mounted to the body about 20mm...total length of hinge 1290mm
I,d rather sell my...mum,....than my bedford!!

hinge pivot is only bit showing on outside, this door has a habit of unlatching itself on occasion....have heard it bump when going over dips in rd etc, so has taken a bit of punishment and has always stayed solid, has been dropped shut couple of times with no damage

the door itself is extremly solid, an heavy, so the hinge seems to handle it without sighs of stress to any part of its mounting....

the door itself at an educated guess had once been 2 single rear barn style doors, that have been welded together to create one "biggie" these two piccys lead me to believe this

Thanks Skippy and Rogue. I never thought of using a piano type hinge. Perfect!
