Starter motors

hi ya'll having to change to a larger flex plate, (manual to auto) I had to purchase a new starter motor, did an ebay jobby and this is what I got ...... now, me thinks this is not going to last ten minutes under load, check the differances in sizes and if any auto sparky or electric savvy's out there can give us a heads up that would be great, cheers ...in advance. new is 1.7KW ? it's supose to be gear reduced? what do you think.

my dealings with the smaller ones has been all good Dano.
they are more compact and have higher torque. and lighter .
also they can be removed and fitted without having to take the inlet or exhurst manifolds off.
ive used them for years and never burnt one out,
 you should see an increase in power when you crank over the motor.

Dano, I got one of the smaller ones on my van when my original gave up, and it tends to draw far less current which is better for the battery, and turning over my 350chev with 11:1 compression has never been an issue

Hey Danno the only drama ive encountered is some of them have plastic gears in the reduction drive and they have let go in hi-po applications    cheers Neil

The solenoid on the side of the starter motor is a relay. I wouldn't add anymore relays into the circuit as you are just increasing the chances of something failing for no real benefit and then it takes longer to find what the problem is. Just make sure you have a big fat feed from the battery to the solenoid on the starter and that the cabling supplying the ignition switch and back to the control terminal of the solenoid has a bit of meat in it (within reason) and you should be good. The ignition switch wire is the solenoid switching wire so it's not going to be drawing a huge amount of current. It's the feed wire from the battery that's going to be doing all the work so make it big.

yeah all good, the other starter was working fine but just because of the gearbox change I had to get a larger flexplate, which meant the old bolt holes on the old starter didn't re-aline,BUGA. I had to get an offset starter. + I have two good auto sparkys on tap, will let them give it the once over when ready. cheers again.
