From my vague memory when I was able to build models they were 1:24 am I correct? now in mm what dimensions would a model van be, now all I need is a heap of pic's of the van as I've found somebody in Perth with one of these machines so I'd like to send them all the details and get a price, e-mail any pic's of this van to petrolhead1@bigpond.com
Happy to be living past my "use by date" I was given 6-12 months to live in August 2007

G'day

Cruisin' the Net, I found a bloke building custom model CFL vans:

A bit of info and more pics at:
http://www.modelrallysport.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4&Itemid=6

and more here:
http://essexmodelsandminiatures.co.uk/blog/?page_id=2271

I sent him an email but got the impression that they are very expensive as there is many hours work in each one..

The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!

There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

just get your overall measurements http://www.buga.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5&Itemid=7
and divide by 24
1:24 means every 1mm on paper represents 24mm in real life
If you like it do it, If you like it a lot do it a lot!

We have 2 3D printers here where I work. I'm currently working on a 3D model of a base CFL using surfaces in Solidworks. I'll then modify it the same as my van and look at 3D printing it out in any scale I choose. I'll keep the original base CFL model and maybe look at printing some off for those who want them. I'll also look at doing a CFS as well.

The 3D printers are pretty cool and you can get them from about 2K over here. Toying with getting one for home to do parts for my 1/72 scale model warships but having a couple at work sort of means I don't need one at home just yet.

Anyway here's a pic of the CFL surface model as it currently stands. Bit more work to yet to finish it off but it's coming together.

Cheers,
Garry.

Hi Garry, what does your printer do the model in, metal, plastic or wood. I would love to get a 1:18 scale  model of the BUSH BOSS, or the yellow bedford truck. What would it cost to do a complete 1:18 scale model garry.

Hey Busy, when's the big shift day and what did you decide to do with your vans????
I am building my office/work room down there now, work room for my models. Also been doing other stuff, building garden sheds, BIG book cases 2m x 1.6m (for her) etc. I've been working on custom van last couple of days. Big move will be once both vans are sold but most of my stuff (that I haven't sold) will be down there in next few months.
Not sure what to do about standard van yet, top of grill has a bit of rust coming out and I haven't done the interior yet, I have the ply there just haven't had time to do anything on it, I have a little to do list, install central locking (all bits are there including wiring), mould in dash, interior, change air filter, trim down running boards ... not sure to sell it as is or do all the added stuff I was going to do to it. Hasn't been driven for a while - still using for my storage shed lol
Custom van isn't worth anything unless cert'd so plan is to get it cert'd, will probably be sold unpainted with no interior or very budget interior, no idea of price. Will be sad to sell it but I enjoy building them probably more than driving them around - good excuse to build some more muhaha

Hey George,

Material is either ABS plastic or an ABS/polycarb mix.
I have no idea what one would cost. Material isn't that expensive and run time costs isn't really an issue. Would need to analyse the CAD model once completed to get the amount of material required, then sort a cost from there. Once I have that (a while away yet) i'll let you know.

Cheers,
Garry.

Thanks Garry, would really love to get those 2 done in 1:18. I can then get them painted to match the pics. Will wait to hear from you. Just to clarify, the finished model is 100% finished with wheels, everything in the pic ready to display ?  Sign me up mate.
