Looking at a 75 Bedford
« on: May 14, 2012, 08:07:29 PM »
Hiya's all..  Stanga here...  new to the forum and live in Collie WA

the missus found this sky blue dodgy looking bedford van and wanted me to have a look.

First impressiongs were low with it being painted with a paint brush, but seems to be fairly straight tho.  the rust is very minimal, or the bog was cheeky enought for me not to notice.

We want it just to set up as a very basic camper for the bridgetown blues festival and cruising around the south west

It has a 253 holden v8 and a t400 box...  350 holley carb..  runs like a dog cold, starts poorly and a would assume thirsty as me on a friday night.
i drove it at 110km/h and it seemed to sit quite nice...  for a van that is...  bloody loud twin system.  some insulation and carpet interior will fix that up.
brakes performed well, little wobble, but nothing a skim would not fix.

he wants 2000 bucks...   would it be worth that?
rego is due..  door seals need replacing...

would it be worth spending another 2k on it to get it running nice...  plus the interior?

if you get cable operated shifter you can move it in between your legs, or anywhere else it will reach.

or its a bit tight but i run a standard shifter with a double and single seat in the front and works fine:) not sure about a 3 seater bench seat thou.

cheers hotrod..  among the others that replied

i am chasing stock equipment with regards to seating...  just dont know if the bedfords came with column shift and a bench seat..
surely they did, but i am only 1 day old at researching vans

talk about spur of the moment decisions

need to make a decision today though.. so might ring around some van specialists

Question about the windows..  sides and rear..  can i fill them in with fibreglass or steel panels...  the windows that currently are there are silastic installed caravan windows..

Obviously we are going to paint it once all the repair work is carried out
