gday are u replacing the aussie box? i would stay away from them if u have a choice... spend a bit more and get a celica 5 speed or an all syncro 3 speed is a great box too if u have a good diff ratio??? just my opinion!    westy

I agree. Was looking at possibly replacing my W50 with an aussie 4 speed only to be told by 2 reputable wreckers that the celica was equal if not stronger box.

i sold one for 200 with conversion housing speedo cable ad everything couple of years back to marky. if you can get one for that price youll be laughen
:)

there is a bit of mucking around fitting it thou. the celica.. but to get more top speed id say its worth the time/money.

i asume the w50 is the 5speed borg wagner box that came with crummadors? if thats right people say the 5th gears are quite weak and often break.

i think i saw that, from memory it was all custom and eliminated the problem of the shifter being to far back as it just came up in the usual position in the floor (if its the one im thinking of???) does this seem like it would do the job because although i have ideas, frankly i have no idea

price is a we bit steep but wouldnt mind knowing im on the right track

Something to consider is that the aussie 4 speed is a simple bolt in change, and with a diff with a 3.08 to 3.25 ratio you will get heaps better speed and drivability.

The celica conversion needs a different bell housing, gearbox cross member and tail shaft, without thinking about the shifter linkage issue, and without a diff ratio change your still no going to get a great increase in top speed.

Currently its your 4.44 ratio diff thats limiting your top speed not the gearbox, most gearboxes have a 1 to 1 ratio for the final gear (some have overdrive but the overdrive ration is small)

So three, four or five speed will only get you up to the same(ish) top speed, but changing the diff ratio will make a marked difference in top speed without changing your gearbox.

From what I've heard you would be maxing out at around 80Kph with the 4.44.

which ever way you go if you don't change your diff ratio you wont get the full benifit of any gearbox change.

I used to be vague..................Now I'm not so sure

dad says his toyota dyna 5 speed gave an extra 20kms with same revs in 5th over 4th. with about a 4.4ratio diff but big tyres 16'' rim truck tyres 7.50's if that makes sense
