Jumbo Diff ?

Ok Guys, what is this for on the Jumbo diff, the plate is only welded on to the diff so only external, the unit itself is spring loaded and has a Hydraulic line attached to it. Need to know as the single wheel diff does not have this.  Cheers Bas

Ok could look it up in the Workshop Manual, but asking you guys is more fun. An I know how you love photo's

It looks like a form of stabiliser/sway/torsion bar set up.

But it doesnt seem thick enough compared to conventional ones.

Just a guess, Is it a brake overload system? When the van bottoms out, the brakes go on to stop or slow you down
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer

Ok one more please, what is the differance between these two diffs, is it just the year / model.......

This one has the chrome square back plate, my camper also runs this diff.

Diff number 2, looks a lot more heavy duty, this is the one that will replace the duel wheel diff.

im fairly positive first one is early model swb diff, has 28 spline axels and 9inch drums, second is later model obviously more beefy. with 21 spliine axels and 10inch drums.

The second one on your photos is very similar to my diff in my CF280 (1980).

Anyone got a smart Idea to remove stuck axles, have used a slide hammer, no luck, guess I could heat up the bearing to free it, but may be not such a good Idea?

And yes thanks for the above info, will use the second diff as it would look better under a Jumbo, looks beefy.

Try putting on a wheel with the nuts only on a few turns, then use the wheel like a slide hammer. The extra weight of the wheel will often do the trick.
