im not sure that the yoke is the same on the back of a powerglide 6cyl to  trimatic.. i think the power glide is shorter too so tailshaft mod probably coming your way.

speedo connector also different. those 2 mods could cost $500 to start with. why do you want to change?

Cheers Ben...trimatic in it is near shagged..
+there not the best tans. Unless you spend heaps of $ on them...
+I have a powerglide sitting here..
Wondering if would be cheaper spending $ on tricking the trimatic..
Or spending $ to put powerglide in which is a much stronger trans.
Todd..

The powerglide is much stronger but is only 2speed that would be asking too much off the old 202 surly you can pick up another trymatic cheep would save a lot of hassels

I assume since you have a camper, you are thinking about long distances.. consider a turbo 700, or 4L60.

I have seen a few second hand from time to time already setup for 202. If you bought everything new it might get pretty expensive.

Trimatics can be made pretty strong (strong enough for a 202, that is)  for not a lot of cash. Best bet is to sell the powerglide & use cash for a rebuild of trimatic.

So...if you wanted to change from a 202 with an Aussie 4 speed Muncie
to say a TH 700 would it require an engineering certificate?

would you loose much torque for say towing or climbing steep hills
Compared to a manual? ( I'm thinking going auto might make the
Motorhome more accessible to other members of the family including
The wife).  8)

cheers

What's the powerglide out of? The bellhousing will likely need an adapter made

They are a great box, though better suited to masses of power, and mountains of torque.

A worked trimatic would save ALOT of hassles and be reasonably affordable. If you're considering a motor swap down the track a T350 or T700 would be the way to go (or better yet T400)

i have run power glide in a torana years ago

great for racing
it will be fine behind a 202
mine was worked and it was fine
if i could find one i would fit it

do a search on the net you will see powerglides are great
$500??????
your going to the wrong places mate....

although i do all the work myself so i,m not sure what people are charging.
still sounds like a lot to me.

Powerglides may be great , but not for this application. Not very likely to be drag racing a Bedford campervan.

I would be fitting a four speed auto. High revs on the highway gets old pretty fast.
