Power steer unit, any ideas what from?
« on: January 22, 2012, 01:07:19 PM »
I found this on the net, an electric power steer unit

Anyone ever seen one before or have any idea what it could be from
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

I'm not much good to you about the specific model of this one but I do know that a lot of late model Jap cars (Ford Fiesta, Focus; Mitsubishi etc) are all going this way because of costs and it also does not rob HP from the motor.  Same fuel economy as non PS models because no more drag on motor by PS pump..

My old MR2 had electric power steering. Had a lot of electronics that went with it too. I found that out when it started playing up. What a bloody nightmare that was to sort out.

They are optional in the Suzuki Carry van (fairly standard in the UK) and when working, work well, but when they play up, cause lots of grief. They are the first thing to be sold according to the UK wreckers. Generally only used in smaller cars.
I have seen a conversion for a Jag on UK ebay. It was fairly pricey though.
The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!
