Gidday, update on flares and spoiler we are just waiting for Kevin the fibreglasser and then we will under way again. We have to fit in around his day job and home life, hopefully not too long now. Will update when we have more progress.

Cheers Jeff

Gidday, yes I know, lot of time to get the plug right so far, just need the boatbuilder to become free so we can get instruction on the next phase. Hopefully soon.

Just customize it!

just get the flares straight as, paint them in 2k,
give them time to harden then wax them spray with mould release agent, then tooling gelcoat, let it go off till just tacky then glass away.
leave the flares in the moulds till the moulds completly hardened, (that way the moulds wont distort)
also leave the jobs in moulds till completly hard, as the finnished jobs wont distort and make fitting a pain in the ass,

believe me! ive got a set of flares on my poptop that werent left in moulds long enough to stay true and im p#@@%$d off, they are crap. shoddy workmanship!
same with the rear roof spoiler and bonnet.
and the amount they cost me in the long run wasnt b#$$#@y worth it.

jeff its not as easy as marty says.there are a million things that can go wrong. wait for the boat builder or spend sometime who is experienced with mould making in your area. temperature has a lot to do with it you will be pushing up hil in christchurch because its very cold. youll discover all sorts of problems you never knew you had in the cold whether..

there,s not a million things that can go wrong ben, your kidding arnt you???
maybe about half a dozen things.
and thats if your in too much of a hurry and skimp on materials.
i showed you how to make your first mould didnt i ben???
there was no dramas with that one.

but i do agree with cold weather makes it a bit of drama.
but if you get a few patio heaters to warm up your shed it shouldnt be a problem.

have a go making a small mould of say a hubcap to start with .
do a few utube searches jeff, there are a few good tutorials on there.

want to give us a link to one to get started mty. For so long i have been thinking of doing a few things in glass, something i could do from my wheelchair. The start up cost is the worst while you are learning and wasting. lol

there ya go George, this will give you the basics,

how to make a simple fibreglass mould

just remember to give a good thick coat of gelcoat, make sure you bet no bubbles in the edges, and when you lay the glass make sure you get no air bubbles.
this link is quite good.
when you do a search put in
make a fiberglass mould from start to finnish
or something similar

cheers marty
