Bloody back door won't stay closed.

Is there any way I can adjust the back door so the thing will stay closed? Only the drivers side comes open when I go over big bumps/ trail tracks. I had it wired up but now it's the only door I can unlock from the outside till the central locking goes in..
Any one got any pointers?

hey its a beddford trait!  best solution is to buy one of Bens fiberglass one piece doors that opens upwards...no more door rattles or coming open! ones of the best things we did to our van

Or you can weld it shut as we did. lol

It's usually a rust issue, the bottom corner supports rust and loose the diagional support. Basically it's the flex in the van that does it, brace up the pillars

Well my van does have a fair bit of rust... So that sounds about right. What are the fiber glass ones worth? Sounds like a cool upgrade. I'd rather not weld up the back doors at the moment I've only had her for a couple of months

you can find bens bedford bits on ebay if u do a search for bedford parts..he may even respond on here in a few days or do a search in  old posts...

I had that problem with mine in the early days, as busy said its the diagonal movement across the rear opening. Solved mine by bolting in a 16mm piece of custom wood to act as my rear internal panel and mine has never come open again during transit (opps! shouldn't swear and use the t word, sorry). Good luck with yours, its just one of the many little niggles to solve with the bedford.

the back door locking mechanism is made up of a few parts .
the parts that actually keep the doors locked to the top n bottom are like little blocks of steel connected to a rod and handle on drivers side and are connected to a pull cable on the passanger side.
a  top and the bottom lock block that are tapered on the outside that fit into a square recess when closed on the bottom.
 these blocks have a screw in threaded bolts so to speak.
 if you adjust the bold outwards the tapered lock block can go deeper into the locking recess.
 i cut the bottom out of these recesses in the same shape as the recess plate to let the block go deeper and not bottom out.

fixed my doors from ever flying open ever again.

its easy as to fix.

Thanks! Making the hole bigger makes sense. I'd rather cut a bit out that put wood in it ( weight reduction haha)

and it works a treat ,
rear doors wont fly open anymore thats 4 sure....
