Lengthen your trimatic shifter !
« on: September 06, 2008, 11:11:23 PM »
Hi guys...For some time i have been putting up with my short bloody shifter that came with the trimatic that i have in my truck. So today i thought its about time i fixed this problem. What i did was extend the main tube and the "pushdown" rod that runs down the centre of the tube. I bought some tube the same diameter as the original and hunted around for some thin rod for the centre bit.The only things that i bought for this job was 1 new gearshift knob and about 300mm of tube. The original t-bar handle was cracked and was no good, so i bought another knob but one for a manual. This is where i did a little clever trick.By pressing down on the top of the new knob it releases the lock on the shifter and allows you to choose another position. Its does the same thing that your thumb button used to do.Take your hand off the knob and it locks into position.! I have now a more comfortable shifting position and it works a treat!. I will post up some pics for you to see . Hopefully they will show what i have done. Feel free to ask me anything about it. cheers....Johnno ;D

on ya john!!!

funny cause i did a simlar thing just recently..

except i turned the shifter back to front.. so that 1st is forward and pull back for 2nd, and then top..

i used a manual knob.. but ditched the auto shifter cover and swapped for a manual cover.

will post some pics soon.. looks just like manual except its not.. mechanic tried to drive it the other day and he gave up hhaha..

i also lined it up with the park brake.. so females cant just stick it in ark without using the hand break.. hehe nothing against females.. im sure all the females on here would be more mechanically minded than most anyway lol. some just ont get it how you can put a lot of strain on the trany on a step hill without the hand brake..

anyway thats another story lol
