Size.    ::)

the next size vehicle up was too big or had to be custom made.
Bed's & Tranny's fit all the gear & you can stand up. & park in small areas.

generally all down hill from there for most.

Cant remeber there name exactly,maybe Frieberg in West Perth had a fleet deal with Holden for there cars and sold franchises for Mr Whippy with vans all fitted out as part of franchises.
$600 pounds was the original price in 1966 when they started out,believe it or not.
In 1967 they began importing italian and german built refrigeraters and required more space to allow sellers to move around the van selling so they bought into larger bedford vans.
Apparantly Streets Ice cream in the East bought the rights to the franchise in 1971 and were tied to GMH till 1977.
The term "Mr Whippy" is UK in origin refering to a a ice cream vendor who had a three wheel bike he sold ice confections from on Brighton in summer.
Thats the best I can do.

Wasn't Mr Whippy's catch phrase: Often licked, never beaten ?
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"
