just then i read it and it didnt make sense what i wrote but i read it again and it made sense..

ummm

is it possible to use the existing recess that is standard on weld new panels onto? obviosuly youd have to pack them out so they are flush with the rest of it cause the recess is too deep..

Is it possible - yes
Is it easier - no
Is it harder - YES

There is no way to hammer weld or adjust the panel once you start welding, the only real way is to cut the grooves out.

I remember trying to do a similar method (using the groove) when I was a teen, folded the edge of the panels like _|------|_ (kind of thing), but back then it was the arc welder - not recommend

For the drivers side (even the pass if there is no side door) you can do it in one long panel, cut the centre section out and weld a little strip to the inner pillars, drill some holes in the outer panel and spot weld through these in the middle section. Saves a lot of welding but the panel is bigger and more awkward with more chance of warping it.
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"
