Beddy Mechanic in or around Sydney?
« on: July 09, 2011, 11:10:21 AM »
Hiya.

Anyone know a Beddy mechanic in or around sydney. i'm struggling to find someone to do my engine replacement. have almost everything, converting to the supra 5sp from the trimatic and a better head but it is all already on the new motor. just need someone to do the work. (no i cant do it myself, live in a flat in the eastern suburbs and super busy at work).

i have a budget. would love any reccomendations. mechanics who know the quirks of beddys are best because anyone else seems to think of it as a 'conversion' and therefore too difficult.

cheers
Leif

The problem with conversions is that there are always a large number of 'unknowns' especially for someone unfamiliar with them. It may look like it'll only take a certain amount of time and cost a certain amount of money but ask anyone who does these and I think they'll agree with me that it'll end up taking 3 times as long and cost twice as much money. It can be very hard for someone in business to try and explain large cost overruns and try and recoup that cost from the customer which is why you don't see a lot of places specialising in customisation and those that do would seem like they're charging an arm and a leg but once you've been through it yourself you'll find they are probably quite realistic.

If you want to customise a vehicle but want to pay someone else to do it then you had better have very deep pockets or a very large inheritance.

I totally agree with Rogue.  Even doing it myself always costs far more than I start out thinking it will. And I don't count time......
Funny old life.

Can you keep us up to date on how he goes, if he's reliable and/or decent priced, I might have a Sydney based project soon...
