Stub axle wanted near wollongong
« on: May 13, 2011, 06:45:18 PM »
Hello,

I have a friend who has broken a stub axle (passenger side) on his 1973 SWB beddy. As I previously have owned many beddies I was his source of spare parts. Now that I have moved on from my obsession with the vans (sorry guys) I no longer have his back (so to speak). Does anyone know of anyone around the Wollongong area that may have a spare stub axle they would like to sell. I have never seen a broken stub axle until the other day. It broke just behind the outer bearing. Sheared straight off. My friend does not have access to the internet and is now homebound until we can locate a part (preferably locally).

Hopefully someone can point us in the right direction.

Regards,
MDS

there are two sizes, and possibly this one broke because it had been machined (is it a disc brake conversion)?

Yes it has a HQ disc brake conversion. This is what I told my friend  - that the conversions have machined stubs but he was adament that it was an original beford stub and original bedford bearings adapted to carry the HQ discs. So I can tell him that we need to locate a stub axle from a previosly converted van or get one machined. I would imagine it would not be economical to get one machined. Thanks for the reply Worzel.

DON'T machine the stub axle, most HQ conversions have the disc machined to suit the bedford bearings not the stubs machined to suit the HQ bearings.

I think Ben has got bearings to fit both the stub axle and the Disc without the need of machining.

Just messure the bearing race sizes and then get one the same.
