Hi, my names damien, I picked up what I was told is a 1975 CF Deluxe motorhome from melbourne in 2009 and driove it home. she has since been through almost a complete rebuild.

Im not really sure what this vehicle is  and cant find anything on the net about it except that its a CF, Chassis/cab, 25cwt that some company somewhere has purchased and built a motorhome on the back . as far as the dual axles go ive never seen another one like it.
So if anyone has any other info on this id like to know where it originated.

It had the 'deluxe' badges above the front wheel arches . but cant find anythign about a bedford deluxe except one called a "DeLUXe" or something but its not the same.. and im not sure if this is even a 1975 model ?
anyhow.

me and a mate rebuild the bulk of the vehicle as I was intending on living in it and traveling the country.
I also added a 200watt solar panel on the roof with a new waeco fridge and all LED and some fluro lighting.
Replace rear lights with truck LED panels , and even has air horns and a PA system that allows me to pump out mr whippy van music or anything else through an mp3 player etc. ha ha.

shes been unregistered for a few months now as my travel plans changed and has a few little issues going on so, Im about to start modding her even further, just added a king size bed in the back and maybe even replacing the holden 186, with a moden diesel engine of some kind. but thats why im on here to learn more about the CF and see what other people have don to beef theirs up too. Bloddy hell Damien I feel Im being watched what the hell were you smoking when you thought up that paint job It looks wild deffinatly see you coming Just looks like a SWB single wheel diff with a lazy axel behind There is another on here with the same setup check out the gallery maby see you on the road one day Wont miss you

I used to see that van every day parked in a driveway in Ringwood.

Looks like youve put a lot of effort into remodeling it

It was common in the 70 & 80 for caravan manafacturers to buy naked cab/chassis truck and put a type of mofified caravan on the back, making them into motor homes, what was not to common was the dual axel setup that you have.   

The dual axel set up looks like a "lazy Axel" set up, where a second, non drive axel is added behind the first to increase the weight carrying capacity of the vehicle.

Cheers yeah the eye thing is my art style. and my mate Roms did a co-spray jobie on it.

and yeah it is a lazy axle just wasn't sure if it was a standard thing or not. this is the first vehicle ive had an incredible amount to do with.

and yep.. thats where I got it from. It needed a lot more work than I first expected but I guess I should have expected it considering the age.

I had just about everything in the book go wrong with it. so at least i know it back the front now and every noise it makes. still running a 186 with trimatic (which is not great for this size vehicle just didnt have the cash to upgrade at that point)  added a 350 holley which, in hind sight wasnt smart considering fuel consumption. but she hauls at low speeds around the city.

theres 2 x 100L water tanks under the bed too which im looking at removing one to reduce weight.
Im only looking at using it for short trips for weekends to 2 weekers  so 200L of water isnt really needed.

as for the lazy axle. I like the way it looks with 6 wheels, however shes a bog machine. gets stuck everywhere. ca only handle sealed roads or dry solid dirt. ive had it stuck on slightly sloped grass ha ha. and with the height. (highest point 3.0m) I have to plan routes to certain places like train bridges and shopping centers . but still its worth it.

Damien - just empty one of the tanks - leave it in place, Just in case you do decide to do longer trips later on.

There are several ways do do a lazy axel - and the simplest is to just add another set of springs and axel after the first one, but as you found out easy to get hung up with no drive.

I'm guessing yours looks like this



Another way is to connect the two axels together and connect it to the single set of springs with a pivot in the middle of the two axels - like a road grader. This will allow all 4 wheels to stay in contact with the ground most of the time.

Notice the pivot point is half way between the two axels

where did you get the photo of the red truck.
I have never seen a Bedford in Finland before except for the one I left broken down on the side of the road there.
I assume the photo was taken in Finland, or do you know someone from Virkkala who has moved to Australia.
