Window Winder Troubles?!?

My drivers side door window winder is no longer connected to the window itself. I've been winding for hours but they still wont go down.
Does anyone know what is involved in either replacing or fixing the window winder mechanism?

Hi maymann are you sure that the spline that the winder goes in hasent sheared I think that when everything gets stiff thats the first thing that goes Cheers Reid

Hi Maymann, is the winder wobbly? If so, don't keep turning it cause you'll strip the teeth! If this is the problem, you just need to pop off the plastic bit and tighten the screw with a screw driver. Another common problem is the first couple of teeth in the arm get burred, so tyhe teeth on the insied of the winder can't catch hold. You can check this buy pulling down on the glass while turning the handle and see if it catches.

No, the winders not wobbly it seems to turn with the same resistance as if the window was connected however...nothing.
The window is easily able to be lifted and lowered manually and is tight enough to hold position, whether completely up or half way down.
I'm really not sure how to go about it?

So does the winder turn around continuesly without reaching an end? Or does the winder turn one way till stopped and then the other until stop without moving the window?

sounds like your glass has come out/unstuck from it's posi, (a small u channel it sit's in held by a tar or 3m glass silicone) and maybe your "bailey's" channel has retired, and the glass is sticking???(bailey's channel runs up/over/down each side of ur glass, blk felt channel for windows, inside the door channels) you can spray with silicone (lubricant) BUT I STRONGLY RECOMEND REMOVING THE CHANNEL AWAY FROM ANYTHING TO BE PAINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   great lubricant but hot rodders worst enemy!

Gidday I also have the drivers window dilema, however mine is the glass and the channel have seperated. Was like this when I bought it and like any good project the window has been kept up by bits of high density fibre board jammed between the door and the glass.
Managed to find and retrieve the channel from the bottom of the door (helps if you have a screwdriver and 3 elbows or go go gadget arms)
Anyway my question is :- the little plastic bearings, are they a generic thing or are they typically bedford and rare as rocking horse poo? because one is kaput and if I'm going to spend the time fixing it I want to fix it properly. Any help appreciated.

I've checked a few different cars and non came close to fitting the Bedford channel size. I was thinking of getting some turned out on a laithe (can't spell to save me life) as I figured that there would be others in need, but I lucked apon another Bedford with good window bits, so I've put it off for a while.

FJ Holden ones are fairly close and you can get them new!

Deffinately keen to know how you go!

does power window kits need these bearings??? what is the best kit with c/locking?

Fixed!
Went to the local bearing shop with bearing runner in hand and found a bearing that fitted in
(606llv) $5
Tube of sikaflex $18
Removed the old shattered plastic bearing and filed the 'mushroom' off the end of the mounting post and then tried to fit the bearing
Post just too big so I filed it a little off and press fitted the bearing (vicegrips)
hey pressto window goes up and down.

even looked at shower door roller door bearing but just too big to fit in runner.
NO MORE TIMBER HOLDING WINDOW UP!
