Hi guys,
Thanks so much for all the info. I have spent all day/evening looking into the requirements of shipping this van to Melb. It seems the cost is around the $5,000 mark (which in turn will increase with extra suprises) with best price so far www.autoshippers.co.uk. However, looking into the import approval process, it appears that the imported vehicle needs to be pre-1989. With this GMC being 1993, to be eligible I would need to have owned the car and be in possession of it in the UK for at least 12 months. This now makes it ineligible for import approval. The additional costs for licencing/registration/compliance may also be excessive as their is alot of uncertainty. Could be an  extra $5,000, could be more or less. The only benefit is the vehicle is already converted to RHD so that will be a huge saving. I was extremely keen to bring this van home, but all your advice and knowledge brings it back to the reality that I will not get import approval. I found an excellent web page that outlines step by step the process for bringing to Aust if anyone else was looking at doing the same: http://www.moving-to-melbourne.co.uk/news/574/general-australian-news/importing-a-car-to-australia/

Thank you Alex, George, Zeeman, pickmeup, & Truck. Your guidance have saved me heaps of wasted time and money.

You guys are great.

Adrian.

Sorry to hear Adrian, it looked ok, but the last thing you need is an expensive ornament to sit in the driveway because you can't get approval for one thing or another.
If you are looking for a a yank van, regoed here in oz, try a company down your way, AMERICAN IMPORTS, i think that is still their name, i get emails from them a few times a year trying to sell me another hummer. If your interested i can dig up an old email, but they import everything american.

BIG, let me tell you guys that humvee was giant, and awesome to drive, loved every minute of it, first vehicle i drove again after the crash, i can tell you other cars gave me a wide berth when they saw it coming.  If you think outside is big, you can fit a house inside. I tried to get the ornament on the bullbar in the last pic when i bought the truck, mmmm a no sale.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D oh well.  ;) ;D

Hey johnno, when i was sitting beside the truck in my chair i just came up to the top of the front wheel arch, the top of my head did not even clear the bonnet.  ;D ;D These trucks are tall man. I may have some picks of the engine bay, i will have to dig into my cd  collection of pics for you. Just so you know, the engine is a 6.2lt Chev V8 diesal motor, and they roar, the truck weighs in at almost 4ton, mine did because i had 3 fuel tanks and a heap of goodies on it, but let me tell you this at 4 ton, when you hit the gas, it use to launch, you heard that growling V8 come to life, awesome, miss it now>:( >:( >:( ;) :D :DThe new hummers, or last hummer line had a 4 speed Allison gearbox with a 6.5lt chev v8 diesal. I will grab some picks for you john and post them, when i sold it it looked awesome inside. Stay tuned.
