Scam on ebay
« on: January 02, 2011, 06:51:49 PM »
Sooooo.....
I have a van on ebay......
Got an email..........

first contact

--
What is the present condition of this Item? Get back to me asap.

Ryan.

My reply.......

Hi Ryan,
condition is exactly as per the photos,
one CFL no roof, ground back to the gutters,
one separate roof needs work,
holes in floor, rear doors stuffed, bonnet stuffed.
comes with heater, fan, windscreen rubber
,no seats

his reply.....

Thanks for the response,i will take it for $1,500 including PayPal surcharges since i am interested in the immediate purchase for my Dad who just moved to Malaysia, where this is needed and i will be making use of a shipping company to have this picked up from you and have it delivered to him. Further arrangements will be made with you in regards to the pick up once i have paid you.

I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

Ryan.

my reply.....

Hi Ryan,
I would take $1500,
paypal address is this one (hughreid01@gmail.com),
and i will pull the add.
There are 23 photos on the add, all can be enlarged by clicking on them.
If you want specific photos of any particular thing then let me know.
Roof is a separate item, almost the size of a bedford and will require
al least 4 people to place on top for transit.

hugh

then 3 emails
-from ryan......

I will be sending funds ASAP. Like i said before, i have someone (a shipping company to be precise) who will handle the pick up, i will be needing the exact location/address for the pick up, in order to make arrangements with my shipping company for the pick up. I will be adding their charges to the total amount i will be paying you, i would need you to help me transfer their charges to my shippers via western union once you get my payment confirmation.

Thanks,

Ryan.

-from "service@paypal.com.au"  (how did he make that show up as sender?)

G'day

A couple of months ago a mates girlfriend had her car listed in the local paper and was desperate to sell it. She fell for the scam "hook, line, and sinker". A bit of a surprise as she is normally pretty savvy.
She doesn't talk about it either so I wonder how many others have been caught.
The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!

Hi and sorry for the delay in my reply, I am literally overwhelmed by the number of offers.
I would like to thank you for your interest in buying my car and also to clear some things first of all.
The car is located in sydney, New South Wales sealed and ready for shipping. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them.
According with eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here you have the terms and conditions of the sale:
I will need the following details from you: full name(and i need your real name because i will use it for the transfer of the title), full shipping address(where you want to receive the car). After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment.eBay will contact me and I will ship the car to you.
After you receive the car you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you want with the car.The final decision to buy it or not will be after the 5 days with the car at your home.If you find the car unsatisfactory at the end of the 5 days inspection period, you have the option to return it to me at my expense(i am sure it's not the case)
The car will be sent with all the papers and documents required for registration(clear title, bills of sale, car's manual,2x keys, etc). This way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it and I know that you have the money and you aren't just fooling around.

If you agree with my terms and conditions, please send me an email with your full name and full shipping address and phone number to start the transaction.
Cheers

my reply:
do you think we are all idiots!? eveyone whos knows anything about cars know that the a9x toranas are worth well over 100k and anyone going to buy such a car is going to want to see it in the fleash before forking out any cash.
so f*** off scammer!

it pissed me off but i had a laugh at the same time

Yeah i had a similar story whilst selling my barina,
Someone was going to buy it and ship it to Perth (from adelaide) and pay by paypal
Now, an 03 Barina is a common car, why would you bother importing one from interstate, sight unseen?

How can i say this without hurting your feelings...Oh, I know, I don't want your stupid things in my cool van

Oh and also, ebay member Master_jawa from tasmania/broken hill is a time waster, and drewan1970 from SA is even worse, check his feedback
I'd advise anyone from BUGA selling anything on eBay to use caution if either of these guys bid on one of your items, especially Drewan,
both of thes guys bought  my old van, but never paid, collected or were even contactable

G'day

I sold my Mira on ebay and the bloke paid by Paypal so I was not happy. He then drove 12 hours to pick it up with his ute. Here is a picture after we loaded it. And yes he drove 12 hours home like that:
