steel wheel arches (do they exist?)
« on: November 24, 2010, 01:01:31 AM »
gday all... first off let me say, it's great to have found this site and ask people who live it. so, i'm curently in the process of rebirthing a '75 CF (will have some progress snaps up soon).
is it at all possible to get steel wheel arches? i'm not to keen on the idea of sticking fiberglass to her. any ideas would be nice. knowledge on fiberglass would be appreciated all the same. cheers

Hey white, if i were you go steel, i am doing my arches shortly, and i will be going steel, depending what you want any sheetmetal guy should be able to do a good job rasonably cheap. For me fibreglass and plastic flares are more suited for bolt on, like they did with the A9X toranas and 4x4s. My thought is to do anything other then steel, takes just as long as doing steel flares, so just go steel.

Hi Guys,

Part 2 to the bodywork article doesn't exist yet 'cause I haven't written it yet. It's on my list of stuff to do but time is a huge issue at the moment so won't happen this side of Xmas. I've made a start on it and will let you know when it's on the site.

Cheers,
Garry.

I am in the process of modifying my van with steel flares I will sort some photos and post them soon. We ended up cutting the wheel arch off and putting in a 80mm flat steel panel and it its and looks great.

can the flares be made up out of 1 piece of steel?
like a horse shoe and then welded on?
if so id buy a template off anyone that makes one up/
im over fiberglass stuff and the dramas of fixing them onto the van, the flares i were supplied with were too thin by skimping in material and distorted out of shape from being released from the mould prematurely and had fryup scars all over them.the bonnet i was supplied was crap as well/

what a friggen nightmare trying to get them to fit right.
and the person i got them off couldnt understand why i was pissed off!!!!!!
